I don't own a car and I can't drive. Don't plan to either. I like to be enviromentally friendly :)

^ I wish I could have that. I live in a town with poor public transit and people always have to honk at me when I'm walking or biking ... Especially if they THINK they're going to hit me. ****ing tourists. I drive and I'm ashamed of it. :(

I sold my car about 13 years ago and so far haven't missed it, though all the cities I've lived in have had good public transportation so that makes it a lot easier. Unfortunately, I have to say San Jose is one of the hardest places I've lived to get around without a car, it's still possible if you want to do it though. I think it would really bug me if I lived somewhere that you basically have to own a car to get anywhere.

Yeah, I think that's the way to go - just find good places to live with good public trans. Also, I've been on this website for awhile called CouchSurfing , and I recently found a thread on there especially for carpooling etc. At first I was kind of skeptical, but it's a decent community of wanderers and travelers who (mostly) want to help each other, including carpooling.
