Variations Between Album and Concert

Maybe it's just me but I personally can't stand it when hit album songs sound like **** in concert because of an extra three guitars on the album or an orchestra. In my opinion, the songs that are chart toppers should be the band alone with as little interference from recording dubs as possible. This will ensure that the live show is as entertaining as the album itself.

I completely understand using beat machines or psychedelic over-dubs in recording songs that will not be used in concert for artistic expression and exploration but keep the extra add-ons away from major songs. People want to see a band play live, they do not want to hear the album while the band holds instruments.

With the advent of electronics I don't see this as too much of a problem anymore..

I think your response was confused because it appears he switched from one point to another. First he said that he didn't like seeing a band disappoint him by not giving the album's full ensemble, then he went on to say he didn't want the band to just play it exactly the album. Either way, they're hackneyed ideas and not worth their own thread.

I don't really think it should matter. A recording and a live performance are two fairly different forms of artistic expression, they should sound different from each other given the nature of the different situations in which they're produced.
