Methods of finding free music?

Why is it in a world where torrents exist that certain albums just are not out there? I have a Demonoid account, I search eternally through the major public torrent sites, I search rapidshare, I ask musicbanter... nobody has their hands on certain albums!

I've heard stuff about Audacity (it can rip music off sites or something) so... maybe I could use that to get it off rhapsody? I suppose I could just find a site to buy certain albums.. but that would seriously add-up after a while... and I am broke.

Does anyone have any better methods? I'm getting frustrated. One example: I heard Tarantula Hawk on Playlist.com over six months ago and still cannot find an album. =/ I got one song off a really sketchy site and later had to do battle with a Trojan in order to keep it.

I've stopped using torrents in favor of upload sites. Honestly I just do a google search for a blog or forum that has links posted, an example would be like... Google Search "Christopher - Sleep (of Dominion) Rapidshare/Mediafire/Megaupload"

You'll be surprised with just how much music is actually uploaded. The only draw back is that sometimes the files are password protected :/

Okay, I looked around and found some stuff... Gram Rabbit still isn't anywhere. But where do I find individual songs? I could have a lot more albums if I could just fill in the blanks of these individual songs the torrents are missing. =/

Not everything is going to be up, sometimes you'll have to bite the bullet and use iTunes or another pay site.

I tend to not acquire albums at a time. If I seriously want an album, I'll buy it because it's just too much bullshit otherwise. I purchase a lot of electronica singles on beatport.com though... Maybe if there was a website dedicated to selling singles in MP3 format on the web? I'm not sure of a place that may do that beyond what I go to though.

Edit:
I guess iTunes would fit that bill. But I don't know the first thing about it.

The public libraries where I come from get music albums and are available for check out. They have a website and a request page where you can search for albums. They get new releases in all genres of music. You local libraries might not have it though.

They let us check out up to a 100 albums at once. They will hold the albums for you at the library and you can go pick them up whenever, go back home and upload them to itunes and bring them right back. :D
