I have a Phenom II X2 550 @4.2ghz
Coolmaster Elite 330 Case
Western Digital Caviar 640gb HDD
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard (pretty good overclocker)
Corsair 750 watt ATX Power Supply (60 amps !!!! on the 12volt rail)
Zalmaan 9500 92mm Cpu Cooler
Sata Samsung 22X Dvd Burner
4gb 1066mhz G-Skill DDR 2 Ram
And to top it all off a beefy gtx 275
This comp only cost me 1200CAD which is probably around 1000-1100 USD
Definitely worth working this summer.

I built the beast myself and runs games like crysis or Cod5 max at 1920X1200 (thats higher than 1080p) without max AA. I can play left 4 dead at over 100 fps near max.

For the important stuff...right click on 'Computer' on your start menu, then click on 'Properties'.
For the device spec, take a look in your 'Device Manager' in the Control Panel.

I used to be more concerned about specs until I came to realise I mainly play old games nowadays.

I switched from a desktop to laptop earlier this year and I'm happy as long as it has enough RAM to yield near instant response times for my requirements. I've transferred most of my data which was spread over 5 hard drives to 2 large external hard drives. Since my 19" LCD would otherwise be sitting around doing nothing, I often use it as a second screen (particularly useful for programming).

I'm not tech expert but man... No wonder you started a thread on this! Those are some specs to brag about. You're obviously a serious gamer.
I don't really have too much to brag of, but Macbook Pros never disappoint. I just use my laptop for recording and editing audio but nothing professional just a keen hobbyist, as well as for everyday work and pleasure.

Macbook Pro 15.4"
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz
4GB 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM (supports up to 8GB)
Hitachi 500GB 7200-rpm hard drive

Wow, you probably have trouble running Notepad on that thing. Hehe.

Personally, because my computer is the core of my music studio, I have to be concerned with its capabilities.
For me it's not so much a nerd type thing. I do play the occasional game here and there and my computer can definitely handle anything I put on it, but I place far more focus on latency issues in music production than I would toward stuttering video resolution during a video game cut scene.

I just threw together a new rig myself, so heres my specs -

Running Windows 7 x64 RC, build 7100 with all hotfixes and updates applied.

Case - Antec P180
PSU - be quiet! 750 Dark Power Pro
Mobo - Asus P6T Deluxe V2
CPU - Intel Core i7 920 Quadcore
RAM - 12GB (6x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600)
GPU - Nvidia GeForce 8600GT w Zalman Cooler
Hard Drives - 74GB Western Digital Raptor (System) + 2x1TB Western Digital Caviar Green (Storage)
Optical Drive - Pioneer Blu-Ray Writer, BDR-203
Fans - 3x S-Flex 1200RPM 120MM
Soundcards - Creative X-Fi Extreme PCI-E x1 (Internal) + Cambridge Audio Dacmagic via USB (External)
Amplifier - Kenwood R-SE7 Class A amplifier
Speakers - Mordaunt Short Mezzo 2
Monitor - 32" 1080p LG 32LH7000

Yes. My system is ludicrously overspecified in every area bar graphics card. I don't run anything more graphically demanding than TF2 on this machine for the time being, and as such, I don't really need a massively powerful card. It would be nice if my card supported HDCP, but that can wait until such time as an upgrade is needed.

Plus, having 12GB of ram and being able to use all of it is ****ING AWESOME. 64 bit rules!

What exactly do you do with your computer? Seems like a total overkill if you aren't encoding insane amounts of data. I didn't know zalman made gpu coolers (or are you mistaking that for your cpu) because there really is no point spending money on a cooler for an 8600gt when you could use that money to buy a card 3 times better.

The card was second hand from a friend for super cheap, and the stock cooler was wearing out on the fan, being really noisy. I replaced it for that reason. Its definitely a Zalman GPU cooler, since I'm using the intel stock cooler on the CPU. I forget the name. I don't need anything more on the card for now, since the only tangible benefit of a newer card would be to kick TF2 from 50FPS upwards, or to give me HDCP compatibility, neither of which are greatly pressing concerns.

And bear in mind, the GPU, Case, Fans, 2 of the Hard drives, and the Soundcards were all part of my old build. That machine's power supply developed a fault and started blowing things up, so this machine was built to replace it on short notice.

That's quite the upgrade you did there :)

Unfortunately the MBPs don't have sli capabilities and you have to manually make the switch between graphics cards [yep, 9600m and 9400m], which requires a log out. It can be annoying but it really isn't a major hassle as it takes such a short amount of time to log back on. For what I use my mac to do the 9400 is fine, I only switch to the 9600 when the work I'm doing requires high-quality graphics for which it is very satisfying. I can see why Mac opted for the non-sli route as one of their major selling points for the MBs and MBPs is their battery power and they've never really tried incredibly hard to appeal to the gaming market.

Mac OS X v 10.4.11
768 MB DDR SDRAM
1GHz PowerPC G4
26 GB of space left

That's all I know... I'm technologically challenged.

But please help me. This thing is crap.
