Please calm down before doing any physical installations on your computer.

You bought a computer without knowing the specs?

Trollheart 06-13-2021 09:56 AM

If he did then just return it. You can't just say a computer has an SSD and then not provide one. That's actionable under the not-as-described rule, so make sure it's everything he or she said it was, and if not, complain to ebay and get your money back.

Trollheart 06-13-2021 02:21 PM

What do you mean it didn't pick up the connection? Didn't see your broadband? Couldn't communicate with your router? Are you using wireless or ethernet, and if the former, have you the password and everything? I'm sure you know what you're doing, but just in case it's a simple fix rather than return the computer. No HDMI on the graphics card was it? That's pretty unusual I would have thought. Even my relatively old computer (AMD Phenom II XT) has one of those.

I'm going to assume if he's intending to mine bitcoin that he knows the ins and outs of the computer(s) he's going to use. I don't think that's an unreasonable assumption.

Now, if it were Marie, I'd be asking had she plugged it in? No offence, Marie, I'm sure you'd agree!

He's using an old computer he doesn't even know the specs of to mine cryptocurrency. That's not someone I make high assumptions of.

The Batlord 06-14-2021 03:39 PM

Didn't Bitcoin just take a nosedive cause Elon Musk made a bad Tweet about it?

None taken, you're spot on: I thought my webcam was broken for weeks and then it turned out I accidentally activated the built-in cover. I discovered this when I accidentally uncovered it, after having been on the phone with IT for hours. When it comes to tech I am a boomer mom. At least I had the excuse of being off-camera in meetings for a while
