Are you running 64-bit Vista or 32-bit? If you're on 32-bit then your computer should be OK to run Vista, but if you're 64-bit then that would definitely be hogging up your memory. You may want to try and find a PC Optimizer to help clean up your registry and help you optimize your RAM. I've been running Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC for about a month now and it's been working really well.
