I don't understand how novelists can write so much and it's discouraging

Totally. **** those people. Thankfully there aren't any on this site.

I'm writing something that seems long while it's going down but after typing some of it, it looks like it won't be that big at all

The longest story I've written is Blood and Diamonds, that journal I made a few years ago where aliens fight gangsters to a Disco soundtrack. You remember that shit? I think it ended up somewhere around 60,000 words altogether. I prefer writing short stories under novella length, but I kept getting bored and adding on random bullshit and unoriginal plot points (I mean, it was basically just They Live, but with copper instead of sunglasses ).

I'm trying to do horror, it's a nonlinear tale of different scenes all connected through a common story arc. Presented in a way akin to the experience of a disturbed REM cycle. Some mystery elements

Sometimes shorter is better. I just tend not to plan my novels much in advance, so they tend to balloon out of control. Like I say, the current one only has five chapters done and they're already 100/200 pages long each, so I'm at this point nearly hitting the thousand-page mark, which is pretty ridiculous.

Still, if you love writing then you'll probably not find it much trouble to write long works: in fact, as in my case, you may find yourself rambling and writing too much. That's always been my problem. Well, one of my many ones.

You probably just need a beta reader. Not me of course cause **** that headache.

If anyone wants to see what I've typed as of now, it'd be cool to know how the formatting is and if it's to sporadic. Though it's just the beginning where everything's getting introduced so it's probably a given that it's confusing right now. But I think I've already accomplished two horror moments

Sounds groovy. Keep at it! I know you didn't ask for my advice, but I gotta say, don't worry about length. Just keep working, and editing, and let it end up however long or short it needs to be.
