Speaking of Lovecraft, I'm gonna inject some cosmic horror into that aforementioned story that I'm working on, because **** you, I can

I can do anything

Anythiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Bumped it up to 1,000 words a day.

I think I just love writing dialogue and action. I can't even give anything but the slightest of ****s about raw exposition and bulky descriptive paragraphs about locations, items, and physical appearance. It always just feels like fluff, or "Look how good I can write!" wankery. All I want is to have characters interact with each other, so their actions can describe and define them. Talking, thinking, fighting, ****ing. That's what I love.

That doesn't mean that I don't like descriptions, though. It's just that I like to work them in organically with the action, in small bursts. I don't want to write that Suzy Waffle is six foot tall brunette wearing a blue sweater and jeans. I want to write that Suzy Waffle ripped the armpit of her sweater when she broke a groper's nose on the subway, and he spilled his coffee all over the back her jeans, so now she has to put up with her ass squishing every time she sits down until it either dries off or she can find a change.

I may write not very much good, but I raise hell with the sides, yes?

Mondo Bungle 11-17-2018 04:31 PM

what are you, a triangle?

Oriphiel 11-17-2018 04:38 PM

I have as many edges as there are grains of sand on someone's ass when they get ****ed on a beach

You tell me what shape I am

Mondo Bungle 11-17-2018 04:45 PM

so a megagon

Oriphiel 11-17-2018 04:56 PM

Mega gone indeed

Oriphiel 11-17-2018 05:11 PM

Seriously though, does anyone wanna talk about writing? 'Cause I'm so lonely. Everybody thinks I'm just spending all of these hours alone masturbating.

Mondo Bungle 11-17-2018 05:35 PM

I would if I were a better authority

Oriphiel 11-17-2018 05:46 PM

Anybody other than downer Mondo?

I've honestly been contemplating lately ditching writing reviews and moving on to more editorial-based stuff. I've gotten really bored writing them in the past several months and I have a conniption when I repeat myself and/or feel I'm lacking creativity in my writing, both of which tend to pop up when I'm writing music reviews.

Reading innerspace's stuff has made me think that I could put my slightly above average writing skills to better use writing pieces about certain bands, scenes and genres. I was thinking of doing a retrospective piece on the history of nu jazz for my webzine but nothing's concrete yet.

I've read your website / online magazine [whatever you want to call it]. You could extrapolate your writing skills to lots of other genres.

Certainly. I couldn't, in good conscience, focus my writing to a specific genre. Like I said, I hate repeating myself, and I would likely do so if I just wrote about say progressive rock.

In my ideal scenario I would hone my video editing skills to create music-related video essays about the aforementioned topics. Unfortunately like I said I don't have the time nor the constitution to do so. But that is my perfect world.

Ultimately The Frying Pan is at a weird time right now, where I'm still trying to figure out what the hell it actually contributes. Much of the content produced thus far mainly stems from me being stuck in the "reviewer" mindset I cultivated over the years by spending time on sites that revolved around user-created reviews. I've only just begun to realize that I'm not a critic, I'm just a music fan. And what would best suit a role for a music fan? Well as a music fan my main drive is to consume, so I believe that that role would be creating content geared towards others who want to consume, music fans or not. It is a much more interesting and fruitful endeavor than judging the work of others I cannot reproduce myself (that's not to say I won't praise things I like and **** on things I don't in settings like these).

When I said "genres," I didn't mean genres of music, but types of writing in general. Not just music reviews.

windsock 11-17-2018 09:15 PM

Oh. Yeah I don't know how much a fan I am of creative writing. I used to write these terrible stories as a little kid on my ye olden PC but I figured writing about music would be best for me cause it combines two of my favorite hobbies.

I've tried writing legitimate literature before but I always feel like I'm lacking in numerous departments, particularly dialogue. I'm sure if I grew a penchant anew for it I could find myself getting back into it. It's unlikely, though. Audio is my icon.

Hey, if you've found your niche, no reason to stray from it. Also, what kind of PC are we talking about? I used to have an all-in-one IBM that had a key as a lock LOL. It ran Microsoft DOS. It had a flight simulator, Mavis Beacon typing tutorial and a college basketball [NCAA] game simulator. It was definitely from the 1980's, I'm just not sure which year. I distinctly remember Michael Jordan being a part of it, and I know that he was drafted in '84, so it was definitely an older model.

windsock 11-17-2018 10:37 PM

I don't remember the exact model, I remember that it had an Intel Pentium (III?) and ran on XP. After a google I found a picture of the exact tower I had. Other than that I had a beat up "Bondi Blue" iMac G3 that I only used to play Oregon Trail and also Mavis Beacon. That one's actually still in my basement back home.

I know the feeling. Back when I had a journal here, there were only so many adjectives I could use to describe fuzzy Garage Rock songs.

I say go for it. Write a few editorial pieces and see if it puts some fire back in your balls. And write a piece on Disco while you're at it!

Mondo Bungle 11-18-2018 01:45 PM

I'm personally close to "finishing" something

if anyone would actually read it I'd type it up but I'd rather not waste the time otherwise

This is why I love writing with profanity. No matter how many times you use an epithet, so long as you have enough creative ones, it's always fun.

I'd read it.

How long is it?

Mondo Bungle 11-18-2018 01:53 PM

I dunno.

Probably not as long as the Last Captain.

The Batlord 11-18-2018 01:54 PM

Edit: man I gotta stop posting without reading.

Mondo Bungle 11-18-2018 02:11 PM

I actually have two things but they're pretty much the same kinda

technically I have like 12 things but I dunno where it all is anymore.
