I still don't understand coryallen. What did he talk about on the forum that was so bad or disruptive?

Also I don't think the quality is decreasing at all. This seems like a fine forum and I think the mods know when or when not to ban someone.

Well, this is all very interesting and I since I'm a big fan of politcal intrigue it's very entertaining. That being said I just want to echo what three or four people have said before me: this kind of droning discussion only adds to the problem.

Obviously a lot of the member's here think MB is decreasing in quality, and obviously others don't. 'Else we wouldn't have generated this much discussion based on a post that's hardly a paragraph in length.

Some say it's the lounge, some say it's the moderators, some say it's the newbies, some try to be ironic and say it's threads like this (oh look, more irony). This has droned on for nine pages.. nine sodding pages!

The collapse of the Roman Empire (cliche example I know) began with internal weakness, and was assaulted externally until it fell. If we blame things like the moderation staff, or the newer members, we will very quickly form a damaging rift that will leave us unprepared for the barage of spam and internet riff-raff that lurks just outside our gates. It's discouraging, insulting, egotsical, blah blah blah talk like this that strains a communites fragile connection - a connection essencial for prosperity.

If we have a problem we've yet to identify it sure.... maybe the lounge is the cause of all of our problems, who knows? Point is we can't continue to function normally as a community until we push past this supposed slump the site is facing (and it's something I personally haven't experienced). There is always new music out there and it's a topic that simply can't be exhausted so put some effort into each and every thread, post, whatever and personally strive for quality - rather than complain about the lack of quality other members possess.

If people are complaining that nobody shares their taste in music, and thus aren't posting as much, this reminds me of the economy. If people post more and this forum becomes more energetic, more people will be attracted to it and join, and there will be more people with similar musical interests to you. If not, things will just continue to get less and less active, and eventually just collapse. I know I haven't been here as long as most of you, but this just seems to me like a pretty simple solution. And instead of just banning someone for spamming, give them a warning and tell them what you want the forum to be used for.

Having involved myself somewhat in this thread, I think the "problem" is a bit hyped and perhaps not so much a problem as it is change. More discussions happen in the lounge, old members post less and new members post more.

I agree that those who feel there's too little discussion going on in the music forums should give it another shot, try and involve themselves more. Those who don't "feel" the problem themselves probably shouldn't worry. Let's try to at least not make it worse than it is.

More people don't need to join, they people already here need to become more active in the first place. That may lead to more people joining, I suppose, but still, less people will complain.

They do give people warnings.
They also have rules of the forum.
They also have threads explaining what NOT to do.

They don't just ban automatically unless someone is taking up too much space.
Usually those people aren't worth keeping around, anyway.

I think there's some myth going around that we often ban people? Well, we do - but ninety-nine point something percent of the time, the people we ban are some shape of spammers, usually here to advertise for a site, company or themselves.

We don't really ban many active community members at all. At least I don't think so .. :confused:

Exactly. The spammers you ban automatically are the ones who have usernames for the site. And then post in every thread about their site. =P

You want simple ways to improve the site, here's one

We get loads of noobs making 2 or 3 posts in an introduction thread and then disappearing. Instead of asking them to list their favourite bands ask them to talk about them in the forum instead.

I had to read that three times to understand it. o.O

They're not here to post on the forums though, they're here to advertise. a lot of the time I don't even bother banning spammers I just delete their one spam post. You know how many come back after that one post?
