Sneaky Flatmate

My flatmate has been sneaking into my partner and I's room and has started using our stuff.

This includes looking up porn on our computer (even though we have put locks and passwords on it) and nearly blowing the speakers on my radio. :nono:

He has been sneaking in when we are not home.

We have tried to speak to him about it but he just does not listen. It just makes him sneakier...

HELP PLEASE!!!

we are at our wits end, and even though we are moving out in three weeks (to a place where it is just my partner and I)

We've had enough and need some fresh ideas.

Any suggestions will be taken into consideration

Beat him up?

If he gets through your passwords, then they're in the wrong place. Put one at the windows logon or even in the BIOS at startup although if you do, never forget what it is (when you turn on the computer, press DEL at startup to enter BIOS setup, then look for a password at startup option).

Then you log out or turn off the computer when you're not using it.

Jazz 10-28-2009 02:27 AM

That's the thing though, the password on the computer is on the start up. We have no idea how he's working them out, they are not exactly easy or written down anywhere...We've tried a few different passwords but he seems to get pass them.
Yup beating him up does sound like the way at the moment, except being female, younger and smaller then him i think i'd come off second best....lol

Guybrush 10-28-2009 02:47 AM

Is this some thriller drama? Your "roommate" is what you call your other personality? ;)

If setting a password at startup doesn't work, then either you're not very clever with your passwords or perhaps he resets the BIOS by temporarily removing a battery on the motherboard. Have you tried setting a password at the startup of your operative system (presumably some kind of Windows)?

Nah, my other personalities don't piss me off quite so bad. Umm the passwords have never been easy, nor have i written them down anywhere.
I just need some ideas on how to stop him from coming into my room and how to get back at him.

Guybrush 10-28-2009 02:59 AM

My point was really that there are technical ways to bypass a BIOS password so you could try setting one at startup in your Windows instead. If you think he's cracking your passwords - which sounds highly unlikely - you could try this : Find a book you like, choose a page and mark it with a bookmark, take the first complete sentence on that page and use that as your password. It will likely be long, sentences are easy to remember and you'll be able to find it should you forget. If you need to change it, flip to the next page and choose a sentence from there instead.

The password would be easy to remember and will be too long to figure out or crack.

good thing you joined a music forum. that will definitely address the obvious passive aggressive drama brewing in your personal life. for sure.

NumberNineDream 10-28-2009 11:30 AM

shouldn't that work here also ?

Tie him to a chair. Intervene. Put him in the pantry surrounded by food but let him starve...

BTown 10-28-2009 01:09 PM

Tell him to get the **** out of your house.

If he were my flatemate I'd beat him the **** down, why would you use your living buddy's computer for porn?

odds are it's the boyfriend and passing it off as the flatmate to avoid getting in trouble with the girlfriend.

Malicious Wakizashi 10-28-2009 08:41 PM

I like your thinking. To op: have you called Maurie?

Nah boyfriends always with me when we go out. I can't drive and we live miles away from everything....

I thought this was a music forum?...........

Victory Guy 10-28-2009 09:33 PM

I think she wanted to try make this relevent to a music forum by making her name Jazz.

I think I might change my name to Flamenco so we can have a huge debate on what sentencing the balloon boy's parents should get.

Give him an ultimatum, either he starts to respect your space or you throw him out.

Quite simple, I should be a high school guidance councilor

If Random Guy had entered the grocery store with no intention of buying groceries but only to discuss football it would be a perfectly appropriate response.

You mean the high school councilors at your school actually gave you deep meaningful advice?

Username is Jazz because my name is Jazz, nothing to do with trying to make my posts more music related.

But your posts (or most of them) should be music related, seeing as this is a forum to discuss music

Even if there was a football discussion section of the grocery store?

What if the football discussion section of the grocery store had a great atmosphere and great people, as opposed to other places?

What if going to the grocery store JUST for the sake of talking about last night's football game is looked down upon?

Wow

Move to Auckland where you'll be able to find some flatmates who do nothing but play Dota all day. ;)

Malicious Wakizashi 10-30-2009 04:14 AM

The reason I ended with a faux-clever turn of song was to reinforce the fact that this is a music forum. Yes. Wow. Musicbanter. So Jazz, what sort of jazz are you here to spread?

Then the grocery store should probably get rid of the football discussion area if they don't want anyone using it. Motive shouldn't be a factor. Unfortunately it is at some of the more elitist grocery stores.

ever notice how grocery stores and malls have those little signs that say 'no loitering'? with the express purpose of discouraging behavior that goes against the intended use of the facility.

it's one thing if a store has a section to discuss football for people who are waiting for their significant others to finish shopping. it's another thing for people to hang out in that area for no other reason than to hang out. at that point they're simply taking up space and impeding the flow of people who want to use legitimately use the place.

Good point. In that case maybe Random guy should be excused.

As long as the grocery store continues to make good money by selling groceries then no harm done. Presumably some of the football discussers would buy some groceries while they were there. If they don't then why should the grocery store even keep it's football discussion section in the same building?

If the management feels that only shoppers are entitled to use the football discussion section, then that needs to be made clear and posted in the rules. Otherwise, there's no illegality happening. And to penalize or otherwise ostracize a customer for failing to follow a rule that is not in place is fundamentally wrong.

Too funny, I had a roommate in the Navy that would steal my fingernail clippers all the time. I ended up locking his comp up in my closet when I went home for vacay, when I got back we duked it out, I got the much better end of the exchange and we never had problems with him touching my stuff again. SO definently beat him up.
