Winter Break 2009/10

Obviously exclusive to us northern hemispherites.

Anybody have any plans for winter break this year? I've got 3 1/2 weeks off school forthcoming and I'm looking to spend them wisely in the company of some good friends. Obviously I'm going to have to spend at least a nominal amount of time in presence of my family, but if all goes well I plan on squeezing at least two ski trips in and spending New Year's Eve as far away from my home as possible.

What does everybody else have on schedule for themselves?

LoathsomePete 12-07-2009 09:36 AM

My break is from Dec. 10th - Jan. 25th so I have a lot of time to do some writing and reading. I'm going up to Vancouver from Dec. 21st - Jan. 4th so that will eat up some of my break. I'm actually not really looking forward to such a long break, it'll more than likely get me out of my study habit that I worked so hard to obtain this semester and... well it's just too much time off.

I'm taking two weeks off, flying to Houston to see family and friends from Dec. 21st to January 1st. I'll have a weekend to myself here before and and one after the trip, which will be nice in order to clean house and pack before the trip, and relax after the trip before returning to work.

My winter break will almost completely consist of hanging out with my friends.
I live way too far away for them to visit them or for me to go home often.
And I plan on spending a lot of time out of the house.
I want a tattoo, and I hope my daddy comes wif me. [=
The end.

Winter break? What's that?

Seriously though, my one day off of work will probably be spent cooking, pondering my future, and catching a movie. I like to keep it simple.

What part of Houston you visiting sidewinder?

Spring/Woodlands, Katy/Cypress, Missouri City/Sugarland, and inner loop hopefully to get out of the boring suburbs! Even if it's just to cruise around, see what's changed, hit up a few shops, etc.

Good gawd, you're going to be all over the place. Sounds like most of your time is going to be spent driving.

I'm not sure how long you've been away (even though I'm quite sure you've mentioned it before) but alot has changed in all those places in the last few years. Anything inside the loop with be fun though, as usual.

Hope you have a great time anyway! :)

Ha, no joke! :( I just remembered, if for any reason my best friend can't make it into town from Beaumont, I'll have to go over there and hunt him down! Let's hope not, as I sure as hell don't want to be in Beaumont for any reason. And I haven't even sorted out what I'm going to do for a car yet...hopefully borrow my sister's if she can get me added on her insurance as a temp driver.

I'm not too too interested in seeing what's changed in the burbs, except for maybe Spring/Woodlands since I lived there, but mostly inside the loop where it's more exciting. What part of town are you in?

NSW 12-07-2009 12:57 PM

Ugh…Bore-mont. I hope you don’t have to go there either. :(

I live in Spring Branch…or as I affectionately like to call it, the Durty Branch. Despite the trash and the weekly shootings, I like it well enough. It’s close to Downtown and all the freeways. Kinda in the middle of everything ya know? I used to live in Spring myself…absolutely loved it there. Except for traveling 1960.

I'm staying with my family from the 18th to January 10th-ish. Not got a lot in the way of plans except doing a whole lot of work, so I'm guessing I'll be spending most of my time with Microsoft Word.

pourmeanother 12-07-2009 02:16 PM

5 weeks...
-1 week at home with family & friends
-1 week road trip to Seattle for New Years
-3 weeks taking a winter session course, starting a business plan, & looking for a sustainability internship

Well I'm on summer break at the moment which is awesome, I'm hoping to just relax and recover from my time in hospital. I might go and stay at my parent's house which is near the beach, or something. My band also have a few gigs lined up over the summer, and I've got a few music festivals I'm going to which should be good! But at the same time I'm also really looking forward to going back to uni and teaching rounds next year.

The only bad thing about summer break is spending Christmas without my family :(

It's so weird to think you guys are experiencing Winter right now! I'm uber jealous.

57 hours of work this week, more of the same next week.

I f*cking hate the lot of you.

loveissucide 12-07-2009 04:03 PM

I'll be spending a lot of time with the American Confederacy as I've a big massive essay to write about them.Woo.

My flatmate who is a chef works Christmas Day as well as every other day during this time of year. Which sucks because he is the only person I could spend Christmas Day with! Alas. That sucks when you don't get any time off :(

WWWP 12-07-2009 04:58 PM

My break is from December 15 to January something, but I don't have anything exciting planned. Hopefully in the time off I'll kick out some new jams and be able to start playing at some local coffee shops. Or maybe I'll use the time to make a bunch of homemade Christmas presents to give out because I can't afford to buy any (last year I made personalized stockings for everyone). I'll probably fight with my family in Wyoming via telephone since this year I won't be doing it in person and for New Years maybe I'll splash in some rain puddles or something. Fun times ahead.

Tomorrow I take my last final, then I drive home and I don't have to drive back to school until January 11th.

I'm going to start the celebration off with at least 2 days of non-stop sleep, then 31 days of non-stop drinking.

Sounds like a pretty basic month for you.

Yea, I definitely won't have to write a new schedule on it.

Ha, true, though completely normal for me! :D

Alfred 12-07-2009 08:07 PM

Mine is from December 18 to January 4. I'll be visiting relatives of course around Christmas time, hopefully having some quality movie nights with my buds, and likely studying my past math tests in preparation for exams.

Instead if staying in Duluth (it's DULLuth for a reason), our band class is headed down to Orlando for some gigs there. Well, mostly for the beaches and sun, but we have some shows down there we'll hit up.

Reading, writing, and getting ready for the Spring semester will really be a good portion of what I do as well.
