It's not just dude, mate/lad/fella/pal/dude = urgh.

Although I often call people 'mate' if I barely know them. "Alright mate." I hate it but it's just a reflex of being uncomfortable and not knowing what to do.

Why do any words bother anyone? It's probably cos it's really American, with no offence to Americans intended but it just gets on my tits.

I wouldn't say I hate 'Dude' (along with Mate, Man, Fella at the end of sentences), for me it's just annoying because it's so overused.

I'm going to add 'skank' to my list. I don't know why, but I really, really hate that word.

I hate it cos it's so blokey, especially 'mate'. I only do it when I meet a stranger and I feel uncomfortable. But I've stopped doing it recently. I used to have a friend who would call me mate a lot. I felt like saying "Yes. We're fucking friends. You don't need to remind me all of the fucking time."

Mmm, thinking about it now I suppose the only time I ever use 'Mate' or 'Fella' is if I'm in the pub. And that's usually because I've forgotton their names. But then you have the other side of it - I hate it when people say Darling/Sweetie/Poppet etc. It's unnecessarily girly. I find it a little bit patronizing, actually.

Oh, "rad" is a fucking terrible word.
