There is no line, it's all completely relative. I'm just talking about my personal experience relative to my own level of music interest.

For whatever reason, being a massive music geek seems to be largely a guy thing. When I was out there dating I honestly never was with anyone who was super into music. There were a couple punk/hardcore scenester-types but I don't really think of people like as being into music, they're more into the scene than anything else.
It's a fairly even split, in my experience.

I know lots of women who are really interested in music, and it's not just "scenester" types either. In fact, one of my best friends (female) is a music major in her second year of college, and a self-professed audiophile with a wall full of vinyl and shockingly diverse music tastes. Likewise, I know plenty of men who could fit within that criteria as well.

Although, what the hell do I know. I'm female, and I suppose I'd qualify as a scenester type myself. :P

That's good to hear. How old is she? Maybe it's a generational thing.

To be honest, I've met very few women who are full blown music geeks and that does make me a little sad. Having said that, I don't consider music taste a requirement for friendships/relationships... after all, one of my mates listens to nothing but power metal, a whole group of my mates worship Dream Theater, and a couple of my other mates are obsessed with Bon Jovi But I suppose compatibility of music habits/tastes can only help... and I'd love to meet a Bowie fanatic of the opposite sex

She's 20. It could maybe a generational thing, or it could be that my city has a higher concentration of people who are obsessed with music... I dunno.

Interesting, though.

Could be... except I too have lived in the bay area.

Coincidentally, I know a female Bowie fanatic who lives in Auckland... but she's taken, and she is also fanatical about Lady Gaga.

To be fair, there aren't that many people in that van down by the river.
