I'm the opposite, I can fall asleep with noise but i wake up like 30 mins later. I need complete silence to try to sleep for longer periods of time.

At any rate its around 6 or so here and I cant sleep anymore. My shoulder is killing me every time my advil wears off.

Dude, tapes rule. I can go to the thrift store down the street and buy tapes for a buck. True, most of them are ****ty country albums, but every now and again I find a gem.

I wasnt knocking them I just didnt realize the appeal they still have to a few loyal collecters. The durability is bar none in cassettes in comparison with its competition. I'd never seen anyone with the dedication to cassettes that S K seems to have. I guess they are more popular than I gave them credit for.

A buck? As in, an american dollar?
They are about 10 cents at thriftstores here!
I love getting (usually they're free or like 500 tapes for 10 bucks) second hand tapes from someone who's into music that I like. It's such a great way of getting to know music.

You try and play a 40 year old CD ;)
They're all gone after 30 years. Durability of cassettes is just brilliant. There's cassettes from the early sixties that are just fine.
The problem is often the way they are treated. When stored properly and played in clean machines, they are virtually indestructible.

Oh I'm not that much into cassettes. I'm much more into open reel tapes and vinyl :). Cassettes are cool, but they have a lot of exchange problems. Most cassette decks just don't match. Tapedecks do, somehow.

noise used to bother me but these days I can fall asleep even with 40 watts of death metal pumping in my room (and waking up only to realise the album's finished playing)

the only problem with cassettes in this region is that it is quite humid here and they're prone to fungus - no real problem if I play them regularly, though, it's only when I neglect them. CDs after thirty years is kinda iffy, you need a read-all kinda player to play them, and probably need to be wiped with alcohol on a regular basis (wipe with a soft cloth from the center laterally to the edge)

i don't have any open reels, or vinyl - cassettes are fine with me, they may sound not as good as vinyl but they still have a "warmer" sound than a CD

s_k 02-10-2011 07:08 AM

Humidity is definitely a problem with any sort of tape. Same goes with video.
CD's just fall apart after 30 years. No player can play them after that.
The reflecting layer just falls off. You already have this with cheap CD-R's already.

My cassettes sound exactly the same as my CD's. There's no audible difference.
It's just that a cassette can brilliantly copy the sound of vinyl, a CD can't.
But I mostly use them for fun. Yes they sound good, but I prefer tape for it's reliability and a tape recorder has the same effect on people as a wood burning stove or a sleeping cat. It somehow calms you down.

i get mint tapes of good metal for a US buck also

the ones at thrift-stores are usually 70s Chinese acts so no interest in them at all (chinese pop only sounds good after the 80s or pre 70s)

s_k 02-10-2011 08:21 AM

Everything here is just 10 or 20 cents at thriftstores.
No matter what's on it, no matter the quality of the tape.
Can come in very handig. I found this rare philips demonstrationtape for metal tape (the tape type, not the music) once. Worth quite something :)

Totally. I used to put in some headphones and blast that **** directly into my ears to fall asleep.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?! That's bull****! ****ing greedy, highway robbery American thrift stores!:bringit:

s_k 02-10-2011 03:06 PM

Well I'm not sure what it's like in america, but here they get their **** for free (the thrift stores) so a couple of cents for a cassette seems quite allright to me.

Bloozcrooz 02-11-2011 07:12 PM

Lil early still for late night rambling in good ol Texas...but sipping on some drank and reading threads that remind me of a reality show. Who's getting voted off and who's not...eh

On a different note its midnight here, and just popped the top on a beverage and enjoying some tunes. Maybe you can enjoy it this one as well. Im afraid the vocals are edited a little from the original version...not quite sure why it wasnt allowed to say boobie but thats the way the actual song goes. At any rate its close enough for you to get the idea.

Not my cup of tea really :( Sounds like it was recorded when they were sober and I like songs recorded by drunk people when it comes to wistful melancholy ;)

I guess in that situation it would sound good. If I was wankered in a Texan bar I would probably love it too. Live music with a pinch of emotion is always welcome when in this state!

The avatar WILL win me some sort of accolade some day :)

djchameleon 02-11-2011 09:49 PM

well let's start out with favorite drinks/brew/beer/wine then go from there. That's what people do late night...drink so.

Lol...yeah..I dunno I really dont have a fav..it just depends on what my cash flow is at the time of purchasing. Probaly more of what I wont drink would be an easier discussion. Which isnt much..dont like Jack Daniels at all..tried several times and just cant do it. Some wines ive found to beawful but still forced them down. Dont recall what brand they were just some kindof crappy box wine. Luckily I was already drunk so that played role in being able to stomach it. But I def wouldnt buy any.

I do that with wine as well because i'm trying to find a wine that I like to my tasting

When I go out drinking my first go to drink is a screwdriver. OJ and vodka. I probably get two of those, scope out the room drink some water in between then I get something like a Red Devil or A Purple Mother****er. After that I like to try out something new that I haven't had before. Sometimes though I just go with a 20 dollar bill and when it runs out that's all i'm drinking that night. I'm a lightweight so it doesn't take much to get me buzzed/drunk.

Ahh..the responsible/social drinker type. Always kind of envied those kind of people. Ive always been more all or nothing myself. Every now and then I just get a 12 pack and chill..just kind of sip or whatever. I usually go all out though cause it tends to make for an intresting story the next day. Unless of course you brake your collar bone and things like that in a drunken stupor...Couldnt recomend any wines though cause what ive drank I either didnt like or it was cheap wine anyway.

I don't mess with beer. I can't handle the stupid bloated feeling I get and it's so in between. By in between , I mean a wine cooler and straight up liquor. I rather just get as drunk as possible as quickly as possible. I don't have time to be filling my stomach with loads of liquid from a beer. I think it's pointless.

I always said that I'd like to try foreign beer though one day to give it a shot, maybe a lager or something warm but as far as like Buds and Malt liquor, they can keep those nasty things.

Ah..well I retract my responosible drinker statment then..lol. Beers more less for like an try to pace yourself drink. Plus most times you wont act to crazy if thats all your consuming. Just depends on my mood, and my surroundings and company im with.

I generally just go with a 12 pack of PBR. I don't like to get sorta drunk. If I'm going to drink, I'm going to drink.

No football tomorow...for that matter till August...or maybe not even than..oh im rambling again.

Dirty 02-12-2011 07:58 PM

I feel the pain. After football season is over I don't know what to do with myself on Sundays. I'm so used to sitting around all day with a chew in, relaxing watching the games. I'm lost right now.

You can try watching another sport, read, or take up a hobby.

Just a bad sports time of the year. Cause all football is over, baseball hasn't even started spring training yet, and the NBA is in the middle of the season and still a ways from the playoffs. So the only thing to watch is college basketball which I'm not really a huge fan of. Just a shitty time for sports fans.

Bloozcrooz 02-12-2011 08:42 PM

I cant get into baseball really...I should practice more on the guitar during the off season..lol(as if im a football player) I get satisfied with what I know then put it down a while. Then pick it up again

They showed that movie "the scout" twice yesterday with Steve Nebraska. I recognized it after 20 mins or so of watching it.
