I don't understand completely why there is such a discrepancy between enthusiasm for album clubs and responses in discussion threads about albums. I`ve removed myself from being up to date and/or voting on the PFAC and, well, almost altogether at the moment concerning the album clubs. And I love them, conceptually, very much.
I agree with tore and Mrd00d, who mention two aspects of MB that surprise me as well:

Firstly, that activity on the music threads is so slow, compared to activity in the Lounge. The classical music thread is the extreme case, where the proportion is about one post or viewer of classical music, to one hundred posts/viewers to the Lounge.

Secondly, a lot of people seem to forget Satchmo`s excellent advice to new members, which goes something like:
(i) only make a post if you have something to contribute to a discussion.
(ii) remember that you`re probably not as funny as you think you are.( I know I`m not.)

That`s not to say that I`m making loads of thought-provoking comments about music myself, but I do wonder why there are so many potentially interesting music threads that are just left to wither and die.

Two things I don't get

1) Someone posts something joking about someone's mom or something. Or a disease. Or whatever. And someone pipes up and says "Hey man my mom died!" It's like, why even bring that up? Way to go, make someone else feel bad for making an innocent joke. They didn't know that, just don't say anything about it. Let it go and run with the joke. Happens more in real life than forums, but what a buzzkill that is.

2) This applies to forums and that is grammar nazis. So irritating to see somebody correct someone else on spelling a word wrong or something. Especially since it's usually obvious what the person meant, but someone always has to take their douchebag pills and correct them for some reason. I remember when I first signed up here, I said "unattracted" and Plum was all "HAY U KNO DATS NOT A WORD, RIGHT....." Only time I can remember someone correcting me... but what is this, a grammar class or a discussion forum? I see it more with other people and it annoys me when it doesn't even happen to me. Everyone knows what they are trying to say but somebody always has to be a hero and correct them like it's their 4th grade spelling teacher. I don't get it.

i don't mind the buzzkill, if the person affected seriously had a case - it would be a buzzkill if the person faked it

i would hate grammar nazis, though - since I think I'm allowed to be creative with my words - some of them are chosen just for the sake of being dissonant, and some typos are left there because it looks funny - and I read a lot of Pynchon and Joyce

Well, that's the point of saying my mom died either because they really did die or to fake it and burst your stupid jokes bubble. It's a lame defense but people pull it out when they are stuck and don't have a great comeback.

I don't really care about grammar nazis anymore especially the ones that use it as some sort of insult while we are exchanging insults. It is one of the lowest and weakest forms of insulting someone to resort to correcting their grammar. The lowest form of insulting someone is using sarcasm. The person using it thinks they are oh so clever when they use it but no, you are just a straight up douche and your insult/comeback is horrible.

you might've misunderstood what he was saying.

he was basically saying that grammar nazi's are annoying going around fixing people's spelling mistakes and grammar. it doesn't bother him but it bothers the grammar nazi so much that they have to type the correct usage.

i think she got what I'm saying, basically saying that grammar nazis only think they have the proper usage and spelling, when actual professional writers can use the language anyway they think fit

it seemed to me that she was responding to what Dirty said but if you think she was replying to what you said then ok
