American English is my first and only language. Although I took 8 years of Spanish in school and live in a predominately Puerto Rican neighborhood my entire life. If I had the time I would love to learn Afrikaans.

I`m from London but have mastered the basics of American English, a confusing language in which guys can mean girls and when you say," I have a ten-dollar bill", instead of meaning you need to pay someone ten dollars, it means that you have ten dollars.

To make matters worse, a beefburger is called a hamburger, even though it`s made with beef, and not ham. Crisps are called chips, so chips have to be called French Fries. Similarly, Americans say pants when they mean trousers, so they have to call real (under)pants briefs.

The Americans have also declined to join in the British conspiracy to baffle foreigners, in which we proudly call a private school a Public School . As far as I know, they insist on calling a private school a Private School. Well, where`s the fun in that ?

I love confusing people on the internet by using that to describe the England rugby team.

Oh, I only really speak English. I kind of speak French, but I actually managed to forget most of it at GCSE. Don't ask how I scraped a C in it. I have no idea.

Thanks for putting me right, Paloma !
In fact we also say undies - and panties, though that`s for girls only. Less common words are smalls, and bloomers - which are specifically those comically big, old-fashioned affairs.
For very cold weather, we can also put on a pair of longjohns.
