And that sentence was us breaking up.

Joking I heard a similar sentence in scrubs and I wanted you to know that you're a bad person now. :(

Sean Bonniwell R.I.P.
Thomas Harvey "Sean" Bonniwell (August 16, 1940 - December 20, 2011)
Singer/songwriter and leader of The Music Machine.

I just found out about his passing today, so the entry is a few weeks late.
One of my favorite singer/songwriters from one of my favorite 60's rock bands.
Another good one gone. :(

CanwllCorfe 01-22-2012 03:39 PM

R.I.P. Megaupload. Filesonic has also just disabled file sharing, but the site is still up. I imagine they did it themselves because of what happened to Megaupload. Uploaded.to has been shut down for anyone in the U.S.

NoooOOooOoOooOOOooooooOOOoOoOOOOOO...

The world I know and love is coming to an end. I better get busy stealing before it gets all pre-internet in this.

CanwllCorfe 01-22-2012 03:54 PM

I know! Goddamn. This sucks.

No, no...NOOOO!!!

This isn't seriously up for consideration is it?
Without mediafire, we could all be doomed.

I think Mediafire's a little more straight than Megaupload was, they seem to willingly comply with law enforcement about any sort of piracy. Plus, they're based in the U.S. and yet the FBI went after Megaupload, so they seem pretty clean.

Rapidshare sucks donkey dick.

Freebase Dali 01-22-2012 05:18 PM

I'm thinking (possibly hoping) that if the scare spreads, it will be the big sites that go dark, as it were. There are a lot of smaller, lesser-known hosting sites out there that probably don't worry so much about being nabbed, and people that want to file share will do it even without Fileserve, Mediafire, etc.
You tend to see it with these kinds of things... the most popular ones are targeted, and it just makes way for some of the lesser known hosts to shine. Probably a never-ending cycle in the long run, but there's so much money in that advertising market that I don't think it will ever really go away.

The gov would have to go balls deep into regulatory interference and traipse over all sorts of freedoms to nip it in the bud. I think the recent back-lash over SOPA and the result of that backlash gives you a pretty good idea that big bro is only willing to take things so far before their interests get too muddied in political waters, with the right kind of backlash. The kind of backlash that has dollars behind it, I.E. Google, etc.
If it had only been some hippies protesting in city parks, it wouldn't have changed anything.

Alternately, there's the pressure from the entertainment industry... but what we have here is the entertainment industry's dwindling dollars versus the dollars of corporations that run the very technology and ideas that are making the entertainment industry's dollars negligible in the first place. If I were a betting government, I'd bet on the lobbyists who sided with Google, Microsoft, and the other folks who don't want SOPA.
So, I'm holding out hope.

I just heard that singer Whitney Houston died today at age 48:

Singer Whitney Houston dies at 48 - CBS News

:(

I actually had no idea that she was using drugs, which I assume must have taken a toll on her body, not just her career:

Quote:

By the end of her career, Houston became a stunning cautionary tale of the toll of drug use. Her album sales plummeted and the hits stopped coming; her once serene image was shattered by a wild demeanor and bizarre public appearances. She confessed to abusing cocaine, marijuana and pills, and her once pristine voice became raspy and hoarse, unable to hit the high notes as she had during her prime.

"The biggest devil is me. I'm either my best friend or my worst enemy," Houston told ABC's Diane Sawyer in an infamous 2002 interview with then-husband Brown by her side.
That's very sad...to be one's own worst enemy. I'm sorry she had to deal with that.

Alfred 02-11-2012 06:45 PM

I thought she was older than 48.

she dead? man dats cray.

duga 02-11-2012 08:02 PM

This is sad news. More than most pop stars, I always hoped things would get better for her again. Her voice was pretty epic.

RIP

Franco Pepe Kalle 02-11-2012 08:15 PM

I miss Whitney so much. I am feel for her family. RIP Whitney Houson.

ThePhanastasio 02-11-2012 09:12 PM

Definitely R.I.P., and very sad.

It's always exceptionally heartbreaking to me when musicians pass just before the Grammy's, actors before the Oscars, football guys before the Super Bowl, etc.

I really hoped that she'd be able to turn her life around, but addiction is tough. Very sad day.

Janszoon 02-11-2012 09:15 PM

Couldn't stand her music but it's still very tragic. Sad stuff.

I laughed, but out of respect, I will not post the laugh smiley.

So what did she die of? Drugs, I'm assuming?

I believe that Whitney died from heartattacks resulting from a drug addiciton she has had for a long time.

ThePhanastasio 02-11-2012 09:47 PM

Probably at least from complications resulting from prior drug use, possibly from current.

Very depressing stuff.

You ... didn't ... what?!

I envy your innocence. When I was a kid she was like this..

... and I was kinda enamored. I wish I never knew about what happened next.

Anyway, yes, Rest In Peace and much respect to the lady.

Really? Her husband Bobby Brown was a big time coke user, and got her hooked on it. Marrying him was her downfall. RIP.

Howard the Duck 02-12-2012 01:28 AM

very sad

just heard it as I awoke just now

Howard the Duck 02-12-2012 02:15 AM

not much of a fan, but her 80s stuff fit the times

RIP, Whitney

PoorOldPo 02-12-2012 05:40 AM

Really sad. Even though I never really listened to her music. She was only 48 right?

well, it's not that young if you consider she's nearly twice as old as Amy Winehouse

PoorOldPo 02-12-2012 06:34 AM

Yeah true, still ridiculously young though.

mr dave 02-12-2012 07:11 AM

Fan or not there's no denying she had one of the absolute greatest voices in pop music ever. She never once had to rely on studio wizardry or autotune for her vocals during the peak of her career. Her singles and videos always showcased her voice before her body and her rendition of The Star Spangled Banner is widely recognized as the definitive version by which all other pop stars are measured against (and fall short).

She might have turned into a crazy crackhead but that just makes her wasted talent that much more disappointing. Here's hoping she's hooked up with better people now.

starrynight 02-12-2012 07:49 AM

I hate national anthems.

Anyway I certainly remember her first big one, Saving All My Love For You, but I didn't follow the charts much after that so don't know her other songs well.

I suppose it might be considered more tragic if someone dies of more natural causes like Laura Branigan as maybe there is less warning that it is likely to happen and less that can be done about it sometimes. But it is bad as well when someone throws their life away through drugs, even more so if they have been given opportunities in the past and had support for their music. Commiserations to her family and friends.

Howard the Duck 02-12-2012 08:00 AM

i followed her career throughout the 80s - "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", "How Will I Know?", the George Benson cover and of coz, that Dolly Parton cover

i will be listening to her greatest hits compilation soon

Same here. I guess that's what drugs will do to you.

Sad loss though. What a voice.

someonecompletelyrandom 02-12-2012 10:50 AM

Personally never cared for her music but she had a great voice and it's tragic her life was cut so short.

iwillalwayslovewhitney 02-12-2012 12:44 PM

Really really sad about this! RIP Whitney!
