I ask this because I want to be a musician one day, but I for the life of me have never been able to come up with a melody. I mostly just play around on guitar and record things that sound "cool" to me. I feel like a horrible person because I try to make music, but I don't have the "gift". So, what should I do? Give up? Or can this be learned?

Loose Lips, I've heard your music and it's better than a lot of amateur music I've heard. Forget about melody and just keep 'playing around'.

Thanks man, I'm glad you think so. :)

I kind of think this should be moved into the music forums. Thoughts?

Yea, General Music... or perhaps songwriting.

Tough call, moving it to General means it might drown, moving it to Songwriting means it might dry up.

I say songwriting...

I originally made the thread for the purposes of discussing the melodies in ones head, but I went off on a different tangent on how I could get them myself, and can I make music without them. Do whatever you think is best with the thread.
