On the bright side, if the infrastructure of the world collapses and we descend once again into tribalism, or if there is a cataclysmic annihilation of humankind and you're one of the survivors, you don't have to worry about getting appendicitis and dying!

Play Games

As for wasting time, I fully reccommend creating an account on Kongregate and playing flash games to your heart's content. They have a huge range of games, and a lot of badges/achievements for the more popular ones, which quickly leads into a "just... one more badge..." mentality :P

Make Games!

If you're looking for something remotely productive to do and you've always wanted to learn how to program, Code Academy just recently started a load of online courses. At the moment they have 13 courses in Javascript, ranging from the most basic of basics to building simple games and tutorials in the more complex structures. If you're hesitant - coding is actually quite simple, once you get your head about what it looks like, and contrary to non-computer scientist belief, it's actually quite fun!

Play SNES games. 5 days will FLY by.

http://files.ipherswipsite.com/snes9...1.53-win32.zip <--- Snes emulator. Download, set up controls, and load a ROM file into it with the game of your choice.

edge|emulation | download Super Nintendo (SNES) ROMs <-- Here's an archive of every SNES game ever made. Download, unzip, load up.

If you're confused by the fact you can download 1 game and get a lot of different files, just look for the ones that end with "[E][!]" or "[U][!]", those tags refer to unaltered European and United States releases of that game. The others will be stuff like fanhacked mods and stuff.

Exactly the same applies if you want to play SEGA games btw:

edge|emulation | download Sega Genesis ROMs <--- Games

I'm really sorry about your appendix bursting and all your pain and the surgery, but I'm glad you were able to get help so quickly. That's scary that one's appendix can get infected and burst so suddenly.

Possible things you can do to relieve boredom:

(1) Do they allow flute-playing in the hospital? If so, you can produce some morphine-inspired flute solos.

(2) Become someone else for a while by going to Free Games at ROBLOX.com , where you can create your own character and play lots of funny and odd "virtual world" games for free with other people...presumably mostly kids, but you never know, since *I'm* there sometimes. I play Roblox with my child and it's actually one video game that we *both* like to play.

What's cool about Roblox is that the games (and there are over 50,000) are created by members, so they are often really odd. My favorite traditional games are paintball and some Star Wars Game where you can fly around and the goal is to try to hack people up with your light saber, although I prefer to just dance around them to see what they do. Answer: they usually are not amused and they kill me. :/

(3) Watch Youtube videos of BBC productions, like the period drama North and South

Here, to start you off:

North and South episode 1 part 1 - YouTube

(4) Take up origami, make a bunch of origami dinosaurs, and have them fight:
