Maybe you should 1. Stop making a thread every time a thought flits across your head, which I'll admit, seems to be often, or 2. Write a proper opening post if you really want to make a point.

James 02-28-2012 12:17 PM

Right....so what exactly is the thread for?

To discuss the possibility that you're not as smart as you think you are. So far it seems to be doing quite well.

5 star thread, would read again.

So, I think the problem you have is with people with this "syndrome":
Quote:

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which the unskilled suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes.
Actual competence may weaken self-confidence, as competent individuals may falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding. As Kruger and Dunning conclude, "the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others"
It might be an indication that I suffer from it since I found the video really strange, but the problem appears to be that people overestimate their own capabilities resulting in the genuinely capable being demotivated and the incapable just as clueless and arrogant.

Sounds OK for a topic, although it took me a while to figure it out...
