Default How do you feel about silence?

As an audiophile, how do you feel about silence? Is it peaceful, cool in its own way, or just the painfully boring two seconds between songs?
Personally, I like it.

Maybe the most original thread idea wev'e had here in a while. I am a big fan of silence. It makes the moments when I do surround myself with music so much better.

I'm sure to wax philosophical about this to a much greater extent later on.

Absolute silence is it's own music. Normal life sounds without music makes me miss music like a junkie. Amazing topic by the way.

.......that would've been my post if I felt douchey enough. I don't mind the two seconds or so between songs. As far as silence in general, I try to put my ipod away sometimes and just enjoy the ambience if I'm riding the bus or walking or whatever....listening to music all the time seems kind of obnoxious and self-indulgent.

It’s underrated.
Silence is the holy grail of self-discovery.

Silence is great in music, and during certain albums, like you mentioned silence is a happy moment between brutal tracks. Like Scum by Napalm Death, if the tracks weren't so damn short I don't think anyone could sit through that damn album. You NEED the silence between tracks.

The little pauses between songs are fine but I typically can't stand absolute silence. I always need at least a gentle humming sound.

My love of silence is completely separate from my love of music. The two are not connected.

I just hate being constantly bombarded with the sound of things happening. People annoy me when they speak while I'm not interested, and loud noises piss me off.

I generally feel better in silent situations.

i hate it when bands have like 20 minutes of silence after a 5 minute song only to follow it up with something so underwhelming and anticlimactic that it makes you want to punch yourself in the head after wasting so much time (I'm looking at you, Mastodon)

but as for silence by itself, i don't know. it can be welcoming for me, or can drive me crazy. it all depends, really.

As someone who grew up in the middle of the woods, silence is depressing as hell. I moved to the city to never hear it again. I'm more comfortable in the constant white noise of the industrialized city than I am with the sound of nothing.
