You simply can't process those two different situations at the same time, leading to inattention on the road as you think about the message you're sending.

I´d be careful about buying into your friend´s "not-looking-at-the-phone" excuse, Pedestrian. I heard on Dr.Phil, of all places, that there is a 70% loss of road attention for drivers who are texting.

And what you're saying about your mind on the roard is true but IMO is no different that speaking with another person in the car or even listening to the radio or an iPod or whatnot. I think the level of that distraction is acceptably low.

^ This sounds logical to me - I think the risk is when you only have the one hand free for driving.

I'm not going to stick my face in the back of the person's head in front of me so I stand there uncomfortably. What the ****?

^ Yes ! This bugs me so much more than it should, and I don´t know why.

140 kph = 38.89 m/s

5 seconds looking at Facebook = travelling 194m blind.

This is when a good loud fart comes in handy... or pretend to suddenly look up at something. Maybe even a trunk rotation or two. If you accomplish all three, you should have plenty of personal space.

Well played bb. My boyfriends friend Roman has a TV in his car if he's stuck in traffic or locked out of the house!

Yeah it's frightening when you put it into statistics like that. That's almost the length of two soccer fields.

Also, I've only noticed your avatar blinking at me until now :D

In a professional setting, however, saying "no problem" translates to "Dude, I'm still just a kid so this is the best way I know how to say you're welcome." So if you ever have a job where you regularly talk to clients that spend a lot of money on your services you'll quickly learn not to say "no problem" when they thank you.

One thing I catch myself saying when I'm doing phone tech support is "Cool". I don't know how it comes across because our clientele normally isn't too stiff but I hate it when it slips out.
