First Impressions

This is not so much spilling your guts about what you think of people on Music Banter but to say what your first impressions of people were when you first joined, who stood out and why. Then tell us how or if that impression has changed.

The first person I'd like to mention on this part is Trollheart. At first I found him quite excessive with his journal which was to start with just YouTube videos. I found him a bit goody-to-shoes but didn't dislike him. Now I feel like I know him a lot better, about his life with his sister, his struggles and so on. I respect him so much, I find he really brings the boards alive with his cheerful and caring posts and has a fantastic journal that has really come alive. I really enjoy his Monty Burns caricatures.

You can mention many people at once, or just one at a time if you need to write a lot more. Totally up to you. If people find it's too much related to spill your guts then I can close it but I do feel first impressions compared to what you now think of people is different from that thread.

Urban: I know i know, it's cliche to mention him in a thread like this, but I feel like I should. As is everybody's opinion, at first he seems a bit harsh and unfair, but I realized that it's just him being honest about someone he comes into contact with, and at times, it's a bit hard to tell because of the lack of honesty that a lot of people show. I don't really see much dishonesty at this forum, but there isn't a whole lot of honesty either. I respect his opinions because I know he's not showering it with bull****.

Fred Sale Sr: This guy is awesome, and has always been awesome. But when I first started talking to him, I thought he was this weird goon who like to talk about random crap but the guy has a lot of intelligence when it comes to a variety of topics like music. I respect his opinions about most things, and him and I do have a pretty good friendship. He'd be a cool guy to chill in a bar with and talk about random crap.

jackhammer: At first glance, I thought this guy was a huge music snob who didn't take anybody's opinions into consideration, after a while, I realized how nice and cool he was. He's always willing to pay a compliment to those who deserve it, and is never afraid to tell people like it is, something him and Urban both share, which I respect. He's been wanting to chat with me sometimes, but I've never had much time to do it, but I would absolutely love to follow up with him sometime. He'd be a cool guy to just talk to.

That's all for now. Everyone else seems just as cool as I first thought they were. If I think of more, i'll add them.

I didn't notice you for over a year. Then when you always talked about where you were from and how you were a projectionist in some independent movie theater, I took you for a rich snobby kid who was as humble as he knew how to be (i.e. not much, but still relatively humble). And you also seemed to assume that you knew more about film than most people here (you still do) even though you were clearly much younger than some of us who've been into film since, like, you were born. That was a turn-off.

Later you started posting about your job creeping into old houses which was pretty cool and then you showed us your car dashboard camera recordings which are awesome. I especially liked when you drove into that telephone pole and told your passenger that he should have been wearing his seatbelt.

I did always like your posting style and appreciated your opinions, but as I often do around here, I bit my tongue when I really wanted to respond to your posts like, "Yeah, I saw that movie 15 years ago in the theater, you're not saying anything new and you've only seen it once" but I don't do that because you're young and you're talking to an even younger audience so it would have felt wrong, pointless, and self-indulgent to challenge you. Those were my first impressions.

When I first joined there were like >50 regular posters, and all of them seemed really cool. They knew a lot about music and were into arguing all the ****ing time. There was very little of this camaraderie and buddy-buddy **** we got going now, which was cool. As a whole the site had a bit more of an edge, and the musical discussion was riveting. Sadly none of them remain active.
