So do people talk about music on this forum too or what?

The Lounge and Media sections are where I live. Sometimes I'll be adventurous and go out to other sections of town and see whats going on. Most of the time I go and some things are cool but I mostly get bored and leave and just hang out at home where I'm comfortable. It's like how I hate going out to bars besides once in a blue moon but love getting drunk at home with friends. Like now. Minus friends. Look at my user title, why am I even here? Where's filmbanter?

OH GOD. FILMBANTER. I'M GOING TO BE A MILLIONAIRE. YES!

You do know there is a section of this site dedicated to that time period yes?

The point I am making is instead of just being discouraged by the lack of activity then not posting. Create new threads and start posting in them regardless of the activity level.

I absolutely agree with this one hundred percent. If people don't post in your thread don't get discouraged: keep at it. Eventually someone will notice and it will get some traffic. I run occasional "Story of..." threads, with Steve Earle and Marillion in production, and others like Supertramp and ELO due later. Few if any people post in them but a few people have said they'll be watching them. Now admittedly these are the "usual suspects" for me, ie people who are into the music I am, but I keep posting in the thread (when I can) because I love doing it, not necessarily to get a huge response. In fact, when I get back to them I'm probably going to have t go looking for them, bump them as it's been a while. But I will.

Same thing with the journals. If we only posted based on whether or not people commented, none of us would write anything. It's about writing about what you like, what interests you and what you enjoy, not how many people comment on your posts. If you like a band, genre, anything, open a thread (assuming one does not exist already) and give it a go. Don't expect a bunch of replies in the first days, but keep it going and refer to it in your other conversations, even drop it into your sig like we do with our journals. Maybe an "Obscure bands" thread?

But like they say, be the change. Do it and see what happens. What have you to lose?

Agree with DJ and Trollheart. The folk/country/world subforum is pretty quiet but it doesn't keep me from posting in there, neither am I discouraged by the lack of response or feedback. I figure even if only one person discovers a tune, or even better, an artist they like, then it was worthwhile. I know I've discovered a few artists I really like since coming here, and it's a great gift to be introduced to music you like.

But I think there's a lot of great music discussion on these boards. It's not all in depth discussion, granted, but it is there if you invest the time exploring the archives.

Same. I dont know what all you are complaining about. I am glad that alot of people post only in the lounge because those are the people i would probably skip over their music posts anyways.

I still find bands and reviews and tons of music talk on here, do you guys actually look through ALL New Posts or just skim the front page and subscribed threads briefly...?

It would be nice if more people here were as into classical as I am. There are a couple, but the lack of discussion sometimes discourages me from making new threads. What is the point of introducing a topic that I know will garner little to no responses? I feel like I should try harder but maybe I am better off leaving those discussions to the Talk Classical forums.

I always see the same composers popping up in the Top 5 Composers thread. If people are willing to learn about composers beyond Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Handel, or Brahms let me know.
