Behind the Troll

I was talking with Hate paper doll and recalling the incident with Yorkedaddy in the reputation thread today and i got to thinking about internet trolls.

Like, what is the motivation behind a troll?
Im not calling Yorke a troll, ive seen him be more than that but i have seen him troll some ppl

ive done it too i admit, but even though i enjoy it, i recognise im being a dick having a laugh at their expense.
however ive met some True trolls around the net, users with multiple accounts having a laugh of fooling ppl they are serious, exploiting anonymity in a dickish way without any remorse.

Why do they this? where does the need come from? what can explain this behavior? that's what im asking you MB

further more, are they a necessary evil?

We hate them but also applaud them at the same time, we reward them with attention falling into their trap knowing it's a trap.
ive even tried being rational with some of them which is ridiculous cause im talking to a person so detached he became a troll.

I would say it's a matter of one person thinking the other is taking a particular issue more seriously than the issue is worth.

And then from that observation, attempts at irritating the other person over nothing are generated.

I do this to my roommate constantly.

yea it's fun in a way, but the joke is mostly a personal one, the person being trolled won't find it funny only the troll does.

imo if you play a trick or joke on someone it's better if you both laugh, no?
it's like, trolling a friend is funny but trolling strangers and leading them on seems mean.

I myself am a fan of trolling.

The motivation for me is that it's good for a laugh. I find it funny when people get pissed at me trolling.

You don't strike me as a troll, on the contrary you seem to me like a good addition to this place.

I just don't like malicious trolling. Prime example, the forum I just left. Things considered funny were:

Following someone who had a miscarriage all over the boards and posting a picture of an aborted fetus every time this person posted.

Tracking down the relatives or significant others of members and harassing them nonstop, or making up lies about that person.

Gimmick posting as a pedophile.

Changing their username to "username's dead mommy'' in the instance of a member who was grieving a recent death.

People who engage in that type of behavior suck, as do the people laughing at it. Not cool, at all.

Exactly some ppl take it too far, i wonder why..
Are they so detached that's the only way they can feel something?

A troll's real definition can vary from the user or the reader's perceptions. A popular type is the malicious troll who relentlessly aims to gain the control, despite the implications and consequences. It's rage is untempered by anything resembling logic or patience, or the self awareness to see that their every barbed word is a paradox. A second kind of troll is one who sees that this troll is more than just a hateful machine, but recognises it more as an abused dog chasing it's tail in front of the owners it bites in hopes for an outreached hand. These trolls are often not truly malicious, yet will engage in similiar behaviour to the first if they detect the manifestation of insecurities and entitlement becoming less of an abstract concept, but a concrete one with real life consequences. The third kind of troll, is the sort of magical creature that AwwSugar and FETCHER defeated for me in the girl's bathrooms, in our first year at Hogwarts

I'd wager that's one of the reasons. A lot of them are probably unhappy with real life too, maybe they get bullied all the time or are constantly rejected by the opposite sex or something.
