The boogey man

A friend recently showed me a vid about the midnight man which is like another creepy version of the boogeyman and just now Briks mentioned my avi reminds him a bit of slender man which is another version of the boogey man.

That got me thinking on how many versions of the boogeyman there are and how ppl create these local urban myths around this scary sh*t.

i remember growing up and hearing that bloody mary myth and hearing classmates saying they saw her, all that you needed to do was say 'Bloody mary' a set amount of times in a mirror and she would supposedly appear behind you and do something creepy, idk for sure i never tried it.

So here are my questions

Do you think any of it is real?
Have you ever done any of these rituals and seen something?

this next biased question comes solely from my personal views

Why do ppl love scaring themselves to death!? i don't get it.

Here is the vid my friend showed me.

I was at a scout trip once, where this girl told us about the Bloody Mary ritual, and promised to go down to the bathroom mirror at midnight to perform it. Unfortunately everyone fell asleep before that.

There's lots, Slenderman, the Rake, Candyman. The best place to read this stuff is on reddit:

Growing up, my dad did this awesome seance thing whenever me or my brothers had friends over.

We'd sit around the kitchen table, each with a mug of water, lights turned off and a single candle in the middle of the table. He'd begin telling us the story of how all our ancestors took over the sacred lands of America's original natives.... and how their spirits still seek those lands, awaiting vengeance, haunting the nooks and crannies of modern day homes.

We'd dip our fingers in the water as he recited native american-sounding gibberish, then wipe it across our foreheads. Dip again, wipe down the nose. Then the gibberish would reach a crescendo and he'd tell us to dip once more, rub the bottom of the mugs, and wipe across our cheeks.... and one person would have black paint smeared across their face!

He'd jump to his feet and scream 'THEY'VE CHOSEN YOU FOR THEIR VENGEANCE! YOU'RE POSSESSED NOW, STAY AWAY FROM MY FAMILY!' and other such things while whatever unfortunate child cried and cried until he said the spirits had left the area. We're talking kids from like age 7 to 10, bawling because they thought they'd been possessed, begging to go home. My dad had to start asking permission to do it because of how much trauma he caused other people's kids haha.

In case you didn't figure it out, he'd burn the bottom of one of the mugs so when you rubbed it, soot would come off. I spent a good year wondering how the hell he did it until he finally showed me the trick when I was 10 or so... and then of course I joined in helping to scare the piss out of everyone and would act possessed myself when my mug was blackened. I was a decent little actress back then.

As I've said before... my dad is the ****ing ****. My childhood was the ****. Long live Boogey Men.

I would be that kid begging to go home, I'm such a wuss. Still, that's hilariously wrong.

Well I know what I'm doing when my cousins come to visit.

Another fun one to terrify children with, and of course learned from my good ol' dad...

We found an old ass portrait in this cabin up north and my step brother was an absolute terror of a ****ing child. So my dad said the dude in the portrait was 'Uncle Festus' and that he had lived in the cabin before us... right where my stepbrother slept.

So my dad started putting this portrait outside the window when he came in the kitchen, in the bathroom, fixed it over his bed while he was sleeping, stuck it in his backpack, just ****in HAUNTED the kid with it the whole three weeks we were up there. He was a nervous wreck by the end of it, we couldn't even say 'Uncle Festus' for years afterwards without him crying or screaming.

Could easily be done with anything old and creepy.

I want to learn the arts of evil from your father.

You avatar goes really well with this thread!

djchameleon 07-09-2014 12:18 AM

The boogeymen from other cultures are scary as hell like Goatman and skin walkers.

Also I hated hearing stories from my family in the West Indies. Since it is a small island people would have to pass through cemeteries to get anywhere like school/work. Their ghost stories would **** you up.

Black Francis 07-09-2014 12:27 AM

haha your dad sounds awesome Carpe xD

I grew up in a religious household with a mother that assured me demons were very real and i shouldn't tease them like it's game, so i stayed away from all that stuff and ive always wondered if those ghost stories were real or if they just are scary games for laughs..

maybe its all the horror flicks ive seen but a part of me believes all that sh*t could be real, in fact i remember one time at the old apt i used to live i once felt a cold breath on the back of my neck that made me jump out of my chair but there was no one there!!

i also used to hear weird sounds at that apt, sounds of like an axe thrown my way and drawing closer, it was weird as hell..

djchameleon 07-09-2014 12:31 AM

Yeah I can relate to the religious upbringing and demons thing.

Horror movies that feature possessions and demons scare the crap out of me as an adult.

Black Francis 07-09-2014 12:44 AM

Me too man even as an agnostic adult i still fear all that demon crap, i remember when i saw stigmata i thought i would get a stigmata just from watching the damn movie.

i also remember my ex telling me how one time she was watching the exorcism of emily rose and weird stuff started happening around the apartment.

then she said we should watch it together sometime, apparently she learned nothing from her whole experience.

I love **** like this. It freaks me out but at the same time it's fascinating. My mom is Catholic (now only Christian) and she said the same thing about not stirring up demons or doing seances. She made me promise to never do one.

I spent half the night looking at that ****. The One-Man-Hide-and-Go-Seek is even worse. It includes an evil doll. Not much creepier than an evil doll. Even this story is creepier regardless of it being more obviously bull****. The comment section also made me never want to go to Japan.

It seems like it's a popular trend.

Look up Russian Sleep Experiment and read it in the dark with disturbing drone music.

Is this it? Using the soundtrack for The Shining, I don't know any drone music.
