S-Mode = A lock on the OS for installing software other than things from the Microsoft Store. Low end laptops will usually have this feature enabled.

RTD System = Resistance Temperature Detection. Basically, just a thermometer hooked up to a laptop via wireless transmitter and receiver for temperature monitoring.

That's cool, didn't know that.

I did buy my parents a new desktop though since this is a Christmas thread and we are chatting about computers. It's a solid-state hard drive. It's a major upgrade from their 2011 computer.

Nice. You're a good son.

My daughter got me this:

^ Times two, Mindfulness: a nice mini-sculpture, indicative of Plankton's physique I pressume.

(And yes, to judge by the photo of the ingredients, that egg-nog looks pretty powerful.)

Happy Christmas to you both and to everyone on MB.
My Christmas gift to MB? This link to snippets and review of a Beatlemania curiosity: the short Christmas recordings that the Beatles issued to signed-up members of the Official Beatles Fan Club:

(Tip: if you click listen, you don't really need to read)

I like to read as I listen. That was nifty, Lisna. Thanks.

I actually have the Beatles' Christmas album (probably a bootleg). It's interesting how they went from basically just being young clowns, to being more experimental to actually sending separate greetings at the end (Hearing John and Yoko singing to each other is always a hoot).

Tried to see if I could find the original 1967 message (Christmas Time Is Here Again), but the only thing I could find is some mash up with the Beach Boys (or at least a band that sounds like the Beach Boys). It's a lot more than what you here on Anthology though.

rostasi 12-28-2021 09:20 AM

Christmas Time Is Here Again.

rubber soul 12-28-2021 09:24 AM

Yep, that's the one I was looking for. They don't have that on YouTube for some reason.

rostasi 12-28-2021 09:49 AM

Well, you may or may not be able to go back to the previous post and listen to it,
since it has a block on it, but you can try.

That's impressive, rubber soul! I wonder how often you can play a thing like that? Comedy, spoken word and music is an odd combination to listen to.

Thanks for sharing such an oddity! The youtube was blocked, but the other link was perfect.
I thought the hook line "Christmas time is here again" was pretty good, and I found the whole thing very interesting. I like the way it blends JL's love of The Goons with a laugh at a vanishing Brit culture, á la Magical Mystery Tour.

rostasi 12-28-2021 05:29 PM

There were actually seven Beatles Christmas records that were long singles.
Maybe they've been compiled into a single CD - don't know -
but it wouldn't surprise me because of their 44 minute total length.

Lisnaholic 12-28-2021 05:48 PM

^ Yep, that's what I imagine rubber soul is talking about

Yes, the Beatles' Fan Club released the seven singles as an album in 1970. This was after the Beatles had broken up of course.

Again, I'm sure I have a boot. The original is worth a fortune.

Aloysius 12-29-2021 02:02 PM

Hope you all had a good one! We had a typically Southern hemisphere Christmas, Christmas Day at the beach and Boxing Day at the skatepark.

'My daughter said it must have been the reindeer': Stomach-churning moment man pulls down his pants and defecates on a family's doorstep on Christmas Eve - and steals their five-year-old's scooter

I have gifts to wrap, and one last gift in the mail and I'm praying it gets here safely.
Need to buy my stepdad one more gift but not sure what to get him.

mailed a Christmas card to my dad and stepmom in Iowa, hopefully that gets there too.

Plankton 12-20-2022 01:35 PM

If you mailed it today or before today, you should ok... hopefully. I'm in the same boat with a card I just sent.

I have one or two things to get still and we have a blizzard on the way. Fun stuff.

I guess that blizzard is headed out here to the east coast around Christmas eve and day. Heard it's really cold in the midwest right now too.

I mailed the card Sunday night, gotta get to Iowa.

I ****ing hate winter https://img703.imageshack.us/img703/8900/o02r.png

Looks like we are just getting cold windy rain, its the wind that scares us in rural CT because we have trees every where to fall on powerlines knocking the power out in the cold

Plankton 12-20-2022 02:00 PM

I think that graphic is just for this week. The storm will keep going so you should get some of the white stuff too. Hopefully no downed power lines for you though.

I used to go out to Bristol for Xmas when I was kid, and this same thing happened one year. We got there and it was mild with no snow, then I woke up to a frozen tundra on Xmas morning.

Looks so nice and peaceful out there in that ^ footage.

Drove 20 mins into town and wanted to look for gifts at Target but once I got inside, the line to check out was wrapped all through the store :o:

**** that

I still need to get my step father something too so I might go back later tonight when everyone is at home.

Supposed to get a Christmas storm tonight/tomorrow but probably just cold windy rain.

Here it comes! :o:

Plankton 12-22-2022 10:53 AM

I went into work for a bit this morning to make sure everything was hunkered down, then went to the super Walmart on my way home. It wasn't unlike any other busy morning actually. Lotta bustling smiling faces.

Plankton 12-23-2022 10:43 AM

brrr -6F with only about 3-4 inches of snow. Cold and windy though.

Damn, that stuff is headed this way now. We have been having wind that knocked down a ton of trees but the power has stayed on. The cold temps and snow is coming in a few hours I think here.
