I'll give you three guesses and then I won't tell you the answer either way.

Bought this recently, liking it so far.

Love that style of knife. What's the open length?

It does a really great job getting those little lint balls off my pants.

7" overall. 4" handle and 3" blade
Kershaw Emerson 6074OLBLK CQC-5K Folding Knife 3" Black Blade, OD Green G10 Handles - KnifeCenter

Kershaw makes incredible knives. I own two of them. Great stuff.

Nameless 04-06-2016 05:42 AM

Man, I should have gotten something like that. Why did I spend $150? I mean, my last knife kind of had the blade chip pretty bad... and the lock failed... which is why I decided to get something with a pointlessly high quality blade and a frame lock. But still, I am a dumb shopper sometimes.

For real though don't buy those cheap switchblades unless you like to cut yourself by accident. Really and truly even if you like to cut yourself on purpose you should invest a little more.

Yeah, Kershaw are a good brand for their price, basically the low end of KAI (high end would be their Zero Tolerance line). I have a few and I carry them often.

The Emerson line is pretty good. The only thing I do not like about this one is the lock up is late on it. So I do not know how long it will last, prefer the lock up to be early.

BastardofYoung 05-08-2016 09:38 PM

Recently picked up a Cold Steel American Lawman (old version with the AUD-8a steel and Tuff-ex coating) from a local shop for a decent price. I really like this knife, its large without being too large, and can flex into any role you can throw at it. An EDC that I would not be afraid to push hard, the Tri-Ad lock really is amazing, and the quality is pretty good, from that super aggressive G10 to the handy drop point blade with enough belly to slice almost anything. Can use this for many tasks, it is an inexpensive work horse of a knife that will last a long time.

I know Cold Steel gets some flack in the knife community, they are over the top and usually appeal more to the "tactical" crowd with their overbuilt designs and large blades that seem out of an action movie, but the American Lawman is one of their designs I think works and isnt trying to be the biggest and baddest in the pack.

Here it is next to some trainers I got from them recently as well:

Chula Vista 06-09-2016 12:10 PM

Spyderco is good stuff. The blade on that balisong is what's called Damascus steel. I'd never heard of it before and assumed it was done by hand after the fact.

Why do you own so many knives? What do you do with them?

Nothing wrong with it btw, I collect stuff too, but it's stuff I can use.

A couple get used for utility purposes. A couple are for self defense if necessary. All the butterfly knives are for flipping or collecting. If I'm watching television I'll have one in my hand practicing moves and tricks pretty much all of the time unless the dogs are close by.

Here's the latest move I learned.

I have a lot of swiss army knifes and multi tool leathermans. They're for emergencies if I need them.

I didn't know cardboard turned grey when it aged.

RoxyRollah 06-09-2016 05:12 PM

I just bought a bad ass pink punisher switch blade with glass breaking point on the end.

I have a small Swiss Army knife that I carry on hikes and such and a crappy Rapala filleting knife that I use for cleaning fish. That's everything.

Three threads :D

I use this for buttering bread. It's a bit useless at cutting off the crusts though.

Glad to see the Kershaw Leek among your knife family Chula, my favorite knife. I carry a Leek for precise jobs and a much thicker Buck 110 for rough and dirty jobs.

Such a brilliant design. I mean, it's basically a switchblade.

Chiomara 03-05-2017 03:59 PM

The only knife I own currently is a useless, hideous decorative thing I bought from a flea market when I was 16 when I was briefly a pagan and decided I needed one for my altar.

However I still want the hand-forged railroad spike knife I linked on here a while back! As well as this one:

What others would you recommend Chula? I mainly only use them for whittling walking sticks and cutting mangoes and the like.

As Epoch said, a Kershaw Leek is one you'll find carrying with you everwhere.

Small but tough as nails.

EPOCH6 03-05-2017 11:01 PM

I always recommend the Kershaw Leek, nothing bad to say about it but it's not invincible, it's a very sharp knife straight out of the box and has a very fine tip that will chip or break off if you jam it into something tough. It's best for precise cutting, sharpening things, carry comfort (very slim profile and light weight), and self defense because of its very quick switchblade style draw. But it's not ideal for dirty work like automotives.

Like I noted, a few of the Benchmade's on the left have been out of production for years and are highly collectable. The Benchmade 42 is basically the holy grail of Balisongs.

Benchmade 42 Balisong Knife Titanium Butterfly Knife Spring Latch (440C) BM42 - Blade HQ

The Tachyon III with a damascus blade retails for $1,500 alone.

And the one in the middle at the bottom is one of only 100 custom made. Mine is stamped #77. It's a heavy duty switchblade. It opens and kicks like a mule when you hit the red button.

I've sold 3, have 4 more to sell, and will end up with only 2. I also have 4 amps to sell along with a ton of effects pedals.

But ya, it became a crazy obsession for a while. If I get into something I go balls to the wall. Some examples:

Masturbation
Guitars
Drugs
Billiards
Darts
Cooking
Golf
Luthiery
Knives
Music Banter

I ordered a custom Ron Thorn guitar which was gonna take 18 months to get finished. This one:

Artisan Deluxe #172

Mike and I drove up to his LA shop, and picked out the wood blanks for the body and neck and then had lunch with the guy. Very cool experience.

So I decided to try and build a solid body electric guitar to pass the time.

The first one came out pretty rough but was totally playable. I'll never forget Linda coming downstairs while I was jamming on it and saying "I truly did marry a madman".

The second one was a misstep. I overreached.

The third one came out so good my boss at the time bought it at cost, and still plays it all the time.
