I Need A Vacation

It's been 8 years since I've had any kind of vacation, and I'm thinking come hell or high water, I'm taking some time off this spring or summer. I'd like to hear some suggestions, and keep in mind that money's pretty tight these days. Blue waters, white sands, and palm tree's are always welcome, since I've never experienced any of that.

Also, keep in mind that I might not book any return travel.

Pet_Sounds 01-07-2015 12:49 PM

I've heard Bermuda's fabulous.

I'd have to get some Bermuda Shorts then.

I could make that work.

Frownland 01-07-2015 12:53 PM

You should check out Lake Michigan sometime, really go out of your comfort zone.

My black and white screen makes that second guy look like a Nazi.

Do you want an active vacation or a loungy vacation?

That's why dogs are usually a bit paranoid. Especially dogs in Bermuda.

Doesn't matter. I could have fun with either.

The water is far from blue.

You need to use that as the title in one of your compositions...

Oriphiel 01-07-2015 01:17 PM

How 'bout New Orleans? Good music, spicy food...

Cuthbert 01-07-2015 01:18 PM

If I was based in the US, I'd visit the Rocky Mountains, California, then work my way down to South America.

Stopping off in Belize obviously.

I'll need to do some research on this.

Already been to the Rockies, and Cali.

FTR, I've been all over the US, except New Orleans and Hawaii... hmmm... Hawaii... need to research that one too.

I'm jealous :p:

You'll get your blue waters, white sands and palm trees in Belize ftr.

Psy-Fi 01-07-2015 01:39 PM

You could venture down to Austin, TX for the annual SXSW film & music fest in March. Warm weather, good food, cheap beer, enough visual & audio choices to satisfy any film & music enthusiast.

Belize is about the same distance from me as Cali, which is nice.

NAMM is in Anaheim next January if you want that with the beaches (and Disneyland). They have a Summer show in Tennessee too if you don't mind missing out on the beaches.

Mentioned this here before but my kid spent a couple of weeks in Belize and she said it was amazing. Lot's of stuff to do but also tons of ways to just chill.

She said this was a total trip.

You could have fun with me! I have more different types of beautiful landscapes, oceans and beaches that you can poke a stick at. I'll show you a good time. :D

If plane is expensive, canoe over, Paul tried to.

Taking a vacation to go to NAMM just kind of defeats the purpose of the vacation. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go, and I was gonna meet up with an old Army buddy at the one down south last year, but never got the time off.

I've been there. A looooong time ago, when I was 13 or 14 or so. No beaches. No Palm tree's. The water's kinda blue in spots though.

Yes, Belize looks promising. I'm looking into all inclusive packages. It's not cheap.

I'd have to bring my daughter, since she wants to be a Hobbit. We'll take turns rowing.

This looks doable.

Gonna see what the daughter thinks. I'm pretty sure she'll be all smiles when I ask her what package we should get. She doesn't even know yet.

For those that responded here, thanks for the tips.

It's gonna kill my bank account with 3 other people besides me going. I could always conveniently leave her BF out of the loop. That'd save me a few bucks. :) She'd be mad tho.

John Wilkes Booth 02-10-2015 09:53 AM

you're from chicago, right? i would recommend the outer banks (beaches of north carolina). if you're driving it would be a hell of a better drive than to florida or cali. and if you're flying it works too. but since you're on a budget i'm wondering if you are willing to fly and then get a rental. cause really you could drive from chicago to virginia beach in about a day.

the reason i recommend the outer banks is cause i lived in florida my whole life and grew up going to the beach down there, and i've only been to the beach once in the outer banks but i preferred it there really. not as muggy, not as many people, water is pretty much just was warm (i'm sure your arctic ass won't notice the difference), and the area is cheaper than most florida vacation spots when it comes to hotel rooms and everything else. you can even camp on the beach for pretty cheap if you're up to it. also this is the only beach where i've seen an actual dolphin in the wild.

Plankton 02-10-2015 09:58 AM

Nah. I'm gettin the **** outa dodge. White sands, blue waters, and palm tree's baby.

Come to Cali. We can ride dirtbikes and shoot guns.

Plankton 02-10-2015 10:54 AM

Dammit. You make a good argument Fred, but I'm leaning more towards the tropical. The daughter and me have wanted to do something like this for a long time.

ribbons 02-10-2015 11:53 AM

Your daughter's going to be so surprised! I can only imagine what her reaction will be. You have a good heart. Hope everybody has a wonderful time - which shouldn't be hard to do in paradise. :)

Thanks ribbons. It'll give me an opportunity to make her BF's life a living hell. He'll have no where to run, and I'll be riding him the entire trip. Bonus fun for me, if I decide he can tag along, that is.

Why should you pay for her bf anyhow? You're not a ****ing walking bank. He needs to man up and pay for his own fares and tickets.

If you ever visit the North of England you're always welcome to sleep on my bedroom floor Plankton.

Ah, the pleasures of being an old crotchety ****er... one of life's gift's if you can get to that point. I look forward to a week of misery for the poor kid.

Don't be surprised when I show up with a few companions in tow.
