What's your forum routine?

I just wondered if anyone has one like I do, and what it is. When you log on, what's the first thing you do, what threads/subforums do you check first and how do you proceed? Are there certain subforums or threads you ignore, never go near, or always want to read? Is it always the same every day or do you vary it? Stupid question yeah but it might be fun. Or not.

Anyway, here's mine.

First I look for PMs. Usually none. If there are any I get all excited and check them out, usually to find they're from people asking me to review their music or with some question about journals. Though not always of course.

PMs read, I may respond if they require a quick answer, if not I put them on hold till I have time to properly address them. Next stop, surprisingly, is the Journals. Check what's updated, skim through a few entries, see if anything I uploaded has been approved yet. Look for any new journals or old ones being resurrected. Fume if there's any spam. Move on. Check the Editors Pick to see if anyone has posted in the Update Thread for the Journals.

A quick look at General Music, though there's usually nothing much there I'm bothered with, then into Rock and Metal. Check "Riff wars", "1001 albums" and the "Metal survivor" threads, look at any others that might interest me. Check the Prog subforum, nothing happening so it's on to the Lounge.

Check threads like "The Bitch Box", "SYG", current favourites "Hell date", my computer thread and so on. Move on into Jokes, check out the avatar thread and then maybe the Current affairs one, though there's usually not too much there to interest me. A quick look into Sports to check the "English football" thread and then anything else that might be interesting to me, such as Album Reviews or Announcements.

And that's my day. Rinse and repeat. Boring huh? But I get stuck into a routine and in a way it's kind of comforting.

You do have OCD

Janszoon 02-17-2015 05:39 AM

  1. If I have any PMs, I read them.
  2. Check moderated posts. Approve or delete as needed.
  3. Click "new posts" and look for spam.
  4. Click on something that looks like spam. Delete spam and ban spammer. Repeat until there doesn't appear to be any more spam.
  5. Click "new posts" again and read things that look like they might be interesting.

Liar! I'm a good Christian boy and have never slept with a man in my life! :yikes:

Cuthbert 02-17-2015 05:48 AM

Funny as ****. Forum routine :D

I don't have one tbh I just do whatever. I check the lounge and sports forums before the music ones though, unless I see a thread has been posted in which particularly interests me. That's about it.

Overcast 02-17-2015 07:52 AM

1. Click on new posts
2. Right click interesting threads and open them in a new tab
3. Once finished looking finally go through them all and post occasionally
4. Done

This if I am on my computer.

If I'm on my phone I sometimes ignore the moderated posts because it's a fiddle.

Yep. And I definitely ignore avatar requests if I'm on my phone.

You aren't affected since you live in the ocean with a sponge and starfish. How's the restaurant business going?

Not this again...

I just press new posts, but I hardly ever press 'mark forums read' so it ends up very big.

Not a strict routine, more like looking for recent/active banter. I'm usually the Johnny Come-lately and last one to post in a thread before it dies off. But anyways, in no particular order:
  • Quick check for Private Message, usually none.
  • Scroll down and scan the Last Post column.
  • Check The Lounge.
  • Go through The Music Forums, and scan threads titles and last post, before I decide and get involve in reading something.
  • Check New Posts search function.
  • click User PC and check New Subscribed Threads
  • click in order User PC > Your Profile > Statistics > Find all threads started by ... - I do this to find follow-up responses in unsubscribe threads I posted in. It's helpful for run away threads (sometimes where it ten pages since my last reply), it brings me back to the spot where I left off the night before, or whenever I last visited a thread.
  • I check the shout box.
  • Check Plug.dj.

Nobody HAS to have a routine, I just do. I suppose in a way I have a routine for most things I do...

Yeah, it is of course all Obama's fault.

Who says pigs and cows are intelligent? Remember, given half a chance, a cow would kill you and everyone you love!

I usually post about twenty love dumps. Then I move over to the choose a member thread, greatest thread ever. Then i'll dig through my pm's usually about 30 of em on a slow day. Then i'll pick a fight in the socialism thread and from there its onto the shoutbox for the rest of the day.

I get a pop-up notification for PMs. I subscribe to every thread I post in, so they show under my User CP, as well as VMs. When I'm done with them, I'll move on to new posts in case somebody's made a good thread.

Machine 02-17-2015 08:55 PM

1) head straight for general music or the lounge
2) look at the journals for a bit
3) check for PM's (not like I have any)
4) go do something else
5) repeat every thirty minutes
