I think Ki meant a Discman. Since he mentioned CDs. Walkmen were good because you could get small ones (I had one the size of about a pack of cigarettes, very slim and silver.)

Since we're talking about handheld games, I had this bad boy back in the day:

Great thread. I did the CD player in pocket thing :D. I remember around 1999/00 everybody had a Gameboy Color and played Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, I never had one and used to play on my mate's ones. Always wanted to play that.

This was my first games console, I got it about 1997, second hand. It had Castle of Illusion (Mickey Mouse) on it, and a game you didn't need a cartridge to play, called Alex Kidd.

I had this console too and i remember it having very few games locally available for it cause it was the sega master system 2 a transition console between the 1st sega and the genesis

It was sorta like owning a Jaguar when everybody had a snes, sure your console was more unique but there were barely any games for it.

My first radio. I'd cruise the neighborhood blasting Super CFL and WLS.

As for handheld games, this was always my goto:

Hell yeah Mattell was where it was at. I had the head to head football game and also the Space Invaders version. I never had so much fun watching a dash/- run over a screen in my life.

In fourth or fifth grade I used to have a friend who had a portable CD player and we would listen to albums I would bring while we rode the bus to and from school. I supplanted the headphone splitter, my headphones, and the CDs. After a couple of months of doing this I had a CD wallet filled with about 40-50 CDs. One day my friend didn't come on the bus so I didn't end up listening to any music and just put my backpack under my seat as usual. When I got home I wanted to listen to something on my little boombox and I reached into my bag to find nothing there. It had fallen out of the bag or some dirty little cunt (well, probably a rather large cunt to me at the time) of a high schooler had lifted it and were listening to all of my dad rock staples.

My dad was fucking livid, especially since he didn't know that I was borrowing his CDs. Probably lost about 400-600 dollars in CDs that he still hasn't replaced. At least he's actually buying better CDs in the meantime.

This was my first ever video game so to speak.

It was a calculator with a game called digi invaders on it.

Basically you controlled the number on the left and you would scroll from 0 to 9 by pressing the . key. Then when that number matched one advancing on the right you pressed 0 to eliminate it. The little n's were like a bonus and appeared between 9 and 0 and would make a satisfying 'Pewwwwwww' noise when you got them. If the numbers advancing reached your 3 lines you lost a life.

I spent hours playing this.
