I like all those cities.

I went to Blackpool once, enjoyed it but the weather was shit (expected really), basically spent the entire weekend smoking weed with some lads I met from Boro and getting pissed. Too young to get served here (was about 15) so was loving it up there.

Didn't see much of the town or surrounding areas just stuck to the promenade. I didn't even go on the Pleasure Beach :o:

Jonts 04-16-2015 03:03 AM

I think that's Blackpool's problem now that it's become so run down; aside from when they were in the premier league (apparently - I'm not hugely into football) it's the sort of place that people visit but wouldn't bother returning to considering what a ballache it is getting there.

You did right to stick to the prom, google pics of the town centre if you're curious but it's generally not a pretty sight and it doesn't feel any better in the flesh. Some parts of the northern quarter are just as rundown but you can't help but feel the creativity and life in the air, it's on a whole different planet.

@Epoch - You have some beautiful scenery.

What's the legal drinking age where you're from?

Alcohol - 19, I think.
Coffee - whenever your parents allow it.

Liverpool isn't as picturesque as the post on the previous page but it's not far behind, I'll take this opportunity to document how beautiful it can look:

Firstly, the skyline/waterfront:

Our two cathedrals..

Anglican:

And Metropolitan:

Some of my favourite streets and areas from the city centre..

Victoria Street

William Brown Street

Castle Street (sorry about the size of this one, there aren't very many good pictures on Google and this was the only one which showed it properly)

http://www.speel.me.uk/sculptplaces/...tlestview1.jpg

Bold Street with St Lukes church at the top (known locally as the bombed out church, as it was bombed during the war and has no roof, but is still used for events such as concerts and outdoor cinema screenings and such)

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2876/9...8053e2f5_b.jpg

Hope Street (possibly my favourite street in the city, sadly there are no pictures on the internet which do it justice and this is the best i could find, but it has a cathedral at either end and the architecture is lovely)

St John's Gardens

Dale Street

And I'll stop posting now, i think i've done enough haha! I could go on though, and this is just the city centre, there's loads of amazing stuff out in the suburbs too. Apologies for the inconsistent sizing, i'm no good at this sort of stuff..

Cuthbert 04-16-2015 03:44 PM

^ Yeah it's good. That's why I said ours is probably only challenged by Liverpool's. If you want more Liverpool pics, go on Skyscrapercity, excellent website for this sort of thing.

Also I meant to say, when you said the Bullring is hideous, I assume you meant the Selfridges store? I love it tbh. Iconic building, can show a picture to any Brit and they will know what it is and where it is. But I can understand why people don't like it. Looks like a giant fly's eye.

USA Positive
Physically, this country is amazing. It's enormous and has a huge variety in terms of climate and geography—mountains, deserts, plains, tundra, tropical islands, you name it. We're a wealthy technological leader. We've produced some great music and cinema which has influence people around the globe. Not too shabby in the literature and visual art departments either.

USA Negative
Stolen land. History of slavery, genocide and other related awful shit. Wasteful, entitled, insular, money-driven culture that cares far too much about Jesus and guns. Growing divide between the rich and the poor.

In all fairness, everyone's living on stolen land. At some point in history, I imagine the people currently living in every country on Earth probably took their land from some other poor bastard. We just happen to have done it recently.

Yeah I think so. I just really hate it, but I like that it's pretty much identifiable to anyone in the country. Similarly with the radio city tower here in Liverpool, I detest it, but EVERYONE knows what it is and its part of the city's identity which is cool I suppose.

I added more pictures of Liverpool up there mostly off Google, I just submitted the first one as a test to make sure I was adding images correctly, it's been so long since i had last done it..

Well get used to it, cause when you're an accountant with a decent house, you're gonna be setting me up on your couch. Make sure to keep beer in the fridge.

DwnWthVwls 04-16-2015 11:10 PM

Batlord lives here.. you be the judge.

The only good thing about this country is that occasionally DwnWthVwls swims to Japan for a week or so.

Personally I gradually moved to Blackpool for the love of a good woman, she got me closer and closer with Salford and Bolton but eventually I relented. Having been here for over 2 years now I'd be curious to know what your Auntie's excuse was, since she was already on the coast?

And I'd forgotten about the zoo! Damn, will have to edit my post forthwith.

I think my auntie just moved there to be with her now ex-boyfriend, to be fair.

I've been to Salford once for a gig and Bolton once to pick up something off eBay, neither of which are particularly charming towns.

Jonts 04-17-2015 04:12 AM

Not to sound like a district-ist w@nker, but I should've said Salford QUAYS rather than Salford. Big fancy block of apartments right by the office I worked in, but this was back when the area was vaguely attractive but had absolutely no amenities whatsoever. Much nicer now with actual supermarkets and stuff.

Nicest thing I'm prepared to say about Bolton is that there are some decent hills, the Middlebrook shopping centre is a useful thing to have close by and that the town hall is a visually impressive building.

While we're on other towns have you encountered Leeds? I went there to visit the original Reds BBQ place and the city centre struck me as being a mix of Liverpool and Manchester.

downwardspiral 04-17-2015 04:40 AM

Yeah I've been to Leeds a bunch of times as I have friends who live there (and also I've been to the festival a few times as well). It's great, has improved tenfold over the last few years. I love the Leeds market building, one of my favourites along with Liverpool town hall which I posted on the previous page.

RoxyRollah 04-18-2015 07:53 AM

I really enjoy that Sarasota is a circus town....Gibsonton is the freakshow mecca, well was .Only town in the world with a dawarf sized counter at the post office....Score one for this part of Florida.

Nice video. That vid inspired me to do some digging. There's quite a few, but this one has some good footage.

Nothing like spending a beautiful summer day in the city though. I might take the train in and do some wandering this weekend.
