I'm sorry. I...I...I just don't like it.

Wow, pretty whacked to hear how judgmental a lot of you younger folks are over this.

I guess ultimately a person's tattoo is more about what it means to them than what it means to me, it's not my body. But, I feel like people who get tribal tats are more interested in being trendy than they are the art of tattoos... that's pretty weak imo. It's more "look at me, I'm cool" than it is "this is cool, I want it on me". Certain more generic styled tattoos have a history though. I don't know what they're called but I recognize em when I see em. I think pin up girls, roses, hearts, etc with that kinda retro aesthetic are awesome. But even that's become trendy- Ed Hardy's son (?) pretty much sold that kinda thing out. I have a sentimental tattoo and want more so I get the appeal of a portrait but for myself prefer something that symbolizes the person rather than their face.

i don't really judge people when i see that sort of thing yea it's not all that original but any sort of fashion trend you are going to find patterns like that, it's all just a sort of repetition of memes. i think people tend to put a sort of mystic quality on the idea of 'originality' that doesn't actually exist. innovation is typically just taking what alright exists and tweaking it slightly. edit - i have to sort of check myself here cause i do judge people when it crosses over into sort of obnoxious/ridiculous territory. i don't wanna pretend to be jesus here. but even then it's only light hearted judging as i just enjoy making fun of them. but tbh i don't think dali's tattoo is all that bad, beyond the fact that people will categorize him based on it. it looks decent anyway. imo |
That's pretty much the style I was thinking of but I've seen much better than those.

while we're on the topic of facial tattoos.. is there anything (short of manson's swastika-on-the-forehead) that will alienate you from all legitimate sectors of society more than the teardrop tattoo?

^Holy Satan that's awful.
I remember some 8-10 years back or so, some of my friends got very much into tattoos and started getting sleeves or like the whole back or chest done, etc. etc. etc. At that time, I was also considering getting one. But, I realized it was a temporary fad brought about in part by the popularity of shows like Miami Ink and its offsprings and I realized that with so many people getting tattoos, the coolness and badassness of having one would soon inflate. If I were to ever have a tattoo, it couldn't be because it was fashion at the time. For me to be satisfied with a tat, it would have to be timeless and something I wouldn't tire of and I just don't know what sort of tat that might be. In tat-fashion, you got tramp stamps, chinese symbols, tribals .. they're a bit like mullets - cool way back then - but they're harder to get rid of. |
Women have much worse tattoos than men but because men want to sleep with them they don't say shit about it.
Find me a type of tattoo that's worse than a tramp stamp. See, you can't. |

That's a bad tattoo rather than a type.

I've seen some good sports tattoos.
Worse than a tramp stamp? all of them? |
I've never seen a good sports tattoo. I suppose it's theorically possible for one to be well done, but then it's also theoretically possible for a tramp stamp to be well done.

^Holy mackerel that's bad.
I would agree with Urban. Even a tramp stamp that is technically well done would negatively impact the body it was put upon by still being a tramp stamp. Another sorta-category of tats that I've never considered good is the joke tat. Like the one in Bat's post above. Jokes inevitably get old and generally do so quicker than a nice work of art in my opinion. |
I dunno, I think the Mallard Duck head with the SCUMBAG banner is something I'd like either on my lower back, or my face. Then I'll get HUD (backwards 'D') on my forehead, so that every time I look in the mirror I can see my stupidity in written form.

Slightly off-topic, but, you should never pass out at a tattoo party.

Seems like a lot of people in here just aren't big fans of tattoos..
Too much? I find this attractive. Spoiler for tats:
Some of you act like your body isn't going to get old and disgusting if you don't get the tats. Enjoy the ink and your body while you have it. It's like saying, "O well, I might as well never get physically fit because I'm gonna get old and start sagging when I'm 70". <- I use this analogy because gym rats get the same kind of stereotypes as tramp stamps/tribal, and I think that is stupid as well. If you just don't like tats that's fine, but I don't get all the judging. You have no idea what these people do for a living, or how there tattoo's have impacted their life. |

Friend of mine let her boyfriend tatoo a unicorn on her shoulder.
The boyfriend had a sense of humour, tatooed a dick and balls on the unicorn. He's not her boyfriend any longer.... Yay for bad tatoo stories. |

Why You Shouldn't Get Chinese Script Tattoos (If You Can't Read Them) |
Jeff Beck just leaked a tune from his upcoming new album. It's called "Tribal". I just thought this was a fantastic coincidence.

Anybody with that many tattoos is over compensating for something.
I bet they have daddy issues and crave attention they never got as a child. I wouldn't be surprised if you'd have constant drama all the time because of their unchecked egos if you were ever in a relationship with them. |
