Mooch off your friends, get wasted off their beer, then go home and almost drown in your pool. Sounds legit.

Plankton 06-20-2016 11:40 AM

If by "mooch" you mean bring over a couple porterhouse steaks and a 30 pack, then you sir are correct.

Places I'll be tracking down over the next couple of weeks.

Queen of Sidney / Ship Graveyard
Decommissioned BC ferry privately purchased and converted into a scrapyard for 20th century junk.

Walden North / Vernon Pick's Mansion
Walden North was a private estate, scientific research facility, manufacturing installation, and doomsday shelter built by multi-millionaire American uranium prospector Vernon Pick in the early 1970s. It's is located 8 km South of Lillooet, BC in the mountains of Cayoosh Canyon. This will be the first location that I've targeted outside of the Fraser Valley, a bit of a road trip.

Germany >>>

Probably my favourite European country.

Plankton 08-08-2016 09:35 AM

My friends place. This room was built and zoned as an attached garage, but after the village inspector signed off on it... Music Room!

We used to jam in his kitchen. It was a bit cramped.

Plankton 10-24-2016 11:09 AM

My pool. Well, it's not actually mine, this is the indoor/outdoor pool for the condo association where I live. There's also a weight room and a sauna in between the mens and womens locker rooms (not shown). I had a nice swim with the GF the other day and decided to take these pics, since we were the only one's there at the time. The pool is 88° (F), and the Jacuzzi is 104° (F). It's absolutely perfect year round.

Pool/Jacuzzi:

Jacuzzi close up:

The thing about this place is that I've been swimming/working out here since 1979 when my parents moved in across the street. I was even the maintenance man for the grounds, and clubhouse right before I started school for my chosen career path in the early 90's. I had moved out some 30 years ago, but have consistently kept coming back to this place, since my parents lived there the entire time, until they passed and my brother took over. For a while in my 30's, I'd ride my bike from 35 miles away, work out here, then bike back home. Crazy. I was in pretty ****ing good shape back then though. I recently moved a block away, have been going there a lot more, and it's gonna be awesome to sit in the Jacuzzi with 2 feet of snow outside once again, while I watch the snowflakes fall in a month or so.

^ That all sounds very enviable, Plankton. I'm beginning to think you must have sold your soul to the devil; Robert Johnson bargained his soul for his guitar skills didn't he? You seem to've struck the same deal and got a jaccuzzi thrown in! Sweet.

Meanwhile, this thread is building up a catalogue of great photos, and these are some of the recent best, imo:-

^ Undeniably beautiful, grindy, but like Epoch, some of my favourite buildings have an element of the shabby or dilapidated about them too. Of these haciendas, most within cycling distance of my house, my favourites are the abandoned ones:-

I was here yesterday. This castle is almost 1,000 years old, it's built on the top of a hill and looks amazing when you see it coming up. This one is quite small, I'm hoping to see some other Midland castles soon. Warwick looks fantastic.

Here's some photos I look in November that I thought I'd share. This place is a woods just to the north of my town where I like to go walking sometimes. It's also alongside Lough Ree, which is one of the largest lakes in Ireland. It takes about an hour and a half to walk the full circuit, which winds around a castle and its surroundings.

Hey fellas, been a while. Spent a LOT of time exploring the province since my last post and I've started putting it all together in a sort of map book project, detailing each place along the way. Abandoned mines, ghost towns, homes, farms, commercial and government buildings, scrapyards, caves, and so on. So many places I should have shared here, far too many now to post them all, here are some of the highlights:

If you're interested in this kind of **** and would like to know more about any of the places pictured above I've got about 75% of the book up on Dropbox right now:

I'm going to Seattle to visit family in a couple weeks. It's been three years since I've been. Beautiful up there.

I'm honestly posting this as a test post. For some reason, I've posted twice before, but it says I have 0 posts.

I am going to Seattle, though.

Gorgeous pictures, gorgeous landscape. I do love Ireland. It's gotta be the greenest place I know.

I'm jealous of all of you. I live in north Texas, so pretty much everywhere you go looks like some variation of this:

It's terrible not having a forest within walking distance to wander into whenever you feel like it. :c

Lmao one of our members allegedly lives in the woods as well.

I have woods I can go into behind my house that go on for a while too.

Chiomara 02-02-2017 11:17 PM

Must be nice to be able to go cryptid-hunting whenever you want.
*grumbles*

Whoever lives in a forest: adopt me please?

EPOCH6 03-17-2017 06:48 PM

Spent 3 days last weekend driving across BC to Jasper, AB and back, stopped and snooped around a bunch of ruins that I plan on adding to the book. Heavy snowfall prevented me from checking out some of the others that I was planning on hitting so I'll have to make a return trip in the summertime. Tons of pictures, I'll try to cull it down to my favorite spots, can only do 10 per post.

I'll try and post them in order to give a sense of what it's like to drive across central BC in the winter.

That looks cool. I saw snow once, about 30 years ago when I was an exchange student in France, I don't remember it that well. Snow to me looks like a landscape from another planet.
