That's one reason why i like the English, your chippers make the perfect fish and chips. They just don't taste the same over here.

Oooh, toughie. I like plain and simple fish and chips, I'm fond of pie and chips but it's got to be puddin chips and gravy hasn't it?

What about you? I'm guessing steak and kidney pie, chips, peas and gravy.

Swap the pie for pudding.
For a quick snack though...sausage on a barm!

The only food I've had from Ireland is a crap take away from a travel lodge, Burger King that cost 14 euros for 2 bog standard meals, and really expensive drinks. My bank account took a real hit when I went over there. :( and that just rubs it in even more, your chippy is rubbish! There's nothing like traditional English fish and chips. I want to invite every MB member to my house for a proper fish and chips.

Can't go wrong with pudding chips and gravy, truly wonderful meal.

We should start a 'What's for Chippy Tea?' thread. :D

TheCunningStunt 09-07-2010 03:59 PM

I'd post in it tomorrow tonight, I've just decided what I'm having for tomorrow's tea. I'm not even hungry but my taste buds are going crazy for pudding chips and gravy.

I have had amazing take aways in Belfast. I was pretty sure i knew what to expect from a chicken kebab so i ordered something else and then watched my mate eat one. I had to get one the next time. The chips were amazing, the garlic sauce was amazing and the huge chunks of chicken breast were amazing.

Puts the "chicken kebabs" here to shame.

I would love to visit England someday, for several reasons. The food is not one of those reasons. All the English food I have tried is nasty, and the stuff you guys are talking about sounds horrific to me. Any recommendations on anything I "must" try when I go there? Something that's a local hit, yet edible?

Same with Australian food, absolutely repulsive stuff there.

Belfast isn't Ireland, it's Northern Ireland. I went to Cork and it was shocking. But it was weird, it was so bad... it was good. We couldn't afford to do anything. We ended up having a wrestling match in our hotel room. lolwut

Fish and chips from a traditional English chippy. Where abouts are you looking to go? If you're planning on going to London, there's no point in having chippy. They're shit down there.

Well that's Cork for you :D

But yeah the prices here are ridiculous compared to everywhere else because of our stupidly high 21% VAT rates. Pretty sh!t for tourism and for us, but great for the government's pockets.

TheCunningStunt 09-07-2010 04:25 PM

We thought we'd go to Cork because it'd be a bit cheaper than Dublin. 6 euro a pint. I couldn't believe it. How do you get by?! Are your wages higher than they are in Britain so you can afford to live and stuff?
