The pendant sounds like an excellent idea. My papa has never really been around any technology at all. I can remember he was baffled when we got him a video/DVD player haha so a mobile would probably be a bit hard for him to get used to. I know he's just too proud to ask for help, which is annoying. He's so set in his ways.

Something like this maybe? I know this is Australia, just happened to be the first result to pop up. I'm sure they do them here. If not, I expect Vanilla would be happy to help you out?

There's something similar in the US and Canada called Life Alert (or Life Call). It's a little pendant with a button worn around the neck and when you press it the dispatchers call paramedics or firefighters for you (you tell them what you need). You guys know the whole "I've fallen and I can't get up" thing, I know lol

When my dad was researching retirement complexes for his mother (may she RIP), a few of the places were giving this system to tenants as part of their rental package. We thought it was a GREAT idea :)

Ah you're more than welcome Kay! :) We'll all be old someday (me sooner than most) so start storing up the karma now, is what I say! :thumb:

Well, after getting all excited about my new flatscreen it arrived, bang on time, but by the time I got round to installing it it was evening (busy day). Trying to put the stand together (seriously, how hard can that be? Read on in wonder...) and the screws just didn't seem to want to go in easily. So I gave a bit of pressure and they went in, about 95% of the way. The stand was still less than solid though, so dark forebodings were on the horizon.

When I finally had the stand finished, I put the telly on it and lo and behold! forward it did tilt! Consulting the instructions I was advised "fasten the screws securely or the set will tilt forward, but don't put too much pressure on them." I mean, what? Which do I do? So anyway I seemed to have screwed (ergh!) it up.

Brought the stand back to where I bought the telly and was advised I had "busted the heads on the screws", and the guy looked at me as if I was an idiot. I only followed the instructions, I defensively told him, and he said I must have used the wrong drill bit. No, I told him, I used an old manual screwdriver and elbow grease. "Yeah," he nodded, "You put too much pressure on the screws." Duh!

So I had to leave the stand in with them for " a few days" to get the screws out and then reset, and they'll let me know when it's ready. Back home I trudged, had to package up the shiny new TV and put it away safely. Thought of reinstalling my old CRT but couldn't be bothered going to all the hassle of re-establishing all the connections and hauling the damn thing back from the spare room again, all for a day or two.

So now I'm currently tellyless, watching TV on my PC. What a day! :banghead:

So I was coming back from my girlfriend's house this morning and I decided to stop and take a picture of something I pass pretty much every day. I live in the adjacent town of where they filmed most of the movie The Station Agent. I thought you guys would like to see a bona fide movie set so to speak.

And an added bonus...

I found a video of my dad playing the accordion this past Christmas. We very all drunk. It was funny. Sorry for the sideways video.
