Well, you did bring up suicide rates, which is one of the myths that gets pushed by the anti-CCSS crowd. Suicide rates have been increasing at an alarming rate, but to single out CCSS is stupid.

Quote:

Psychiatrists, counselors, and school officials agree: The impetus to suicide is usually far more complex than anxiety about school work and is almost always linked to depression and other mental health problems.

Researchers have not found that school stress directly causes students to take their own lives, said Susan Swick, chief of the division of child and adolescent psychiatry at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
The overwhelming #1 reason for the upward spike of suicides in the last 10 years has been the widespread explosion of social media with kids that are addicted to being on-line 24/7, and unfortunately, many of which fall prey to cyber-bullying.

Also, the phenomenon of Suicide Clusters among teens is still not even remotely understood.

I'm done. Sorry if I crossed any personal lines Hawk.

Boom.

Chula Vista 02-01-2018 03:47 PM

Cyber-stalking also can be a drag sometimes. :finger:

Is it? Do tell.

Where loudspeakers are concerned the vast majority of speaker components come from China, including those of the highest quality available
I guess I got proof positive that it’s stupid to think anyone besides the Chinese should be selling speakers.

Sorry I should have checked my data points. I thought that an extremely stressful system that drives the instruction model for millions of students and drains billions in resources might cause psychological distress to some students who don’t fit the mold. My bad. I didn’t realize you had a quote.

Chula's backpedaling could be the backdrop to a terrible hip hop video filled with gangsters on bicycles.

Panties still bunched, eh?

Your singular opinion on this board (and we don't even know if you were a good teacher or a cynical crappy one) is nothing compared to the vast amount of data from actual mental health professionals on the web.

PS: You're posting your opinions on the same web.

Are you like Frowny? "My web is better than your web, i.e., superior."

The use of social media is a particular worry because it has amped up bullying among a vulnerable age group. Young students in prior generations left school each afternoon and avoided someone who bullied them until the next day or week. Now, social media allows for bullying 24/7 -- and the bully doesn't even have to be someone the child knows.

The experts said it's dope, OH. I've met experts and let me tell you that they would never get behind something with pitfalls and we all know that something like psychology would never be multi-faceted like some Republicans might try to make you believe.

Droll or Troll.

Hmmmm. Help me decide.
