Bag of Tide Pods on the way.

I get that in the winter sometimes and I have hot ribena for it.

Chest is full of crap in the mornings and coughing really hurts my throat, the hot ribena is so soothing and helps with the phlegm.

I would thoroughly recommend a hot ribena in the winter.

How many other countries have something like "gløgg"? (EDIT: link to Wikipedia article. Apparently it's called "mulled wine" in English. Or it's something at least similar.) It's a drink based on red wine with sugar, spices, almonds and raisins in it. Cinnamon too, since it's specifically a December month drink. You serve it warm. It's amazing when "the weather outside is frightful".

I'd imagine some other Nordic countries having something similar, but I don't know about more internationally.

Here in the states, all we have is the Starbuck

Sounds similar to mulled wine.

you lost me at raisins but otherwise that does sound nice. i've never been a big fan of hot alcoholic drinks though.

Cuthbert 12-09-2018 01:40 PM

I've never drank mulled wine but it's popular at Christmas. In terms of alcohol I only really like beer.

Not surprised the Germans are on that. I'm generally down with German food & drink traditions.

I sometimes buy the ready made stuff they have in stores in December. You're supposed to add almonds and raisins yourself, but I don't bother. I just pour it in a mug, heat it in the microwave a few seconds and it's usually pretty nice.

As someone who loves raisins, I've never really understood the hate they get by so many people. I guess they're kinda half rotten grapes, so... maybe not so strange

I'm mostly a beer guy too, but white wine, red wine, port wine and rum also gets my vote in the right context.
