Capitalism has always been about efficiency and wealth creation. The French Revolution was about class struggle.

Capitalism predates the French revolution and emerged from the basic division of labor and increased efficiency which was driven by the industrial revolution.

Capitalism was probably preferable to the ancien regime in France - particularly for the middle class members of the 3rd estate. But there were also more left wing elements of the French revolution who were far from espousing any sort of faith in free markets.
