Hopefully my boss took the hint not to schedule me at 5am after I strolled into work three hours late.

To answer your question, a lot of people who start work very early, like road workers, store stockers, police, ect...get a breakfast sandwich and a coffee.

I'm lucky to pull myself out of bed by 8am. Sometimes I wait til 9. Getting up at 5am (or earlier) sounds like a special kind of hell to me. I set up multiple alarms, I've got maybe 10 going on a usual work night, in some vain attempt to motivate myself through irritants, but I always just hit the snooze button until the alarms finally exhaust themselves. Peace at last.

I used to get up at 4.45 when I had a Saturday job at a bakery and I can confirm, it is absolute hell. I hope I'll never have to do that anymore

I mean, maybe if you have a severe case of "morning person", it aint that bad. But for the rest of us, forget it. It's basically the witching hour. I don't blame Bat at all for not going in. I bet if he did go in, they wouldn't even give him a complimentary breakfast sandwich.

I had to give a talk at a conference once a few hours away from me. The event started at 8. I think I had to get up at four that day. Somehow, I managed to do it. But I swear on Lincoln's grave, never again.

yeah I'm certainly not a morning person, those people who voluntarily get up at 6 spook me
