Sorry to hear about sweet Eddie. It was a tough call, but I’m sure it really was for the best.
We had a cat who lived inside of 4 decades - got her in the 70’s and had her into the 00’s.
When our 16 year old Deja started having kidney failure and our vet had given up on her,
we changed to a homeopathic vet who added nearly 9 years to her life ... and then when
she was nearly 25, we could tell she was ready to go. After such a long time together,
it becomes so difficult to say goodbye, that you sometimes hear people say that they
had grieved more than if it were for a human family member.

Make a memorial to Eddie in a special place in your home
(cat bowl, favorite toys, pictures, etc.) and visit it regularly.

That's a really lovely idea, Rod.

Thanks for the thought, rostasi, but I'm not really a shrines kind of guy. Besides, just seeing things Eddie used is tearing me up, especially his water bowl and his food bowl, which remind me how tough it was for him towards the end, and passing his basket on the landing is a wrench every time I come out of my room. Even seeing his favourite armchair, the expensive orthopaedic recliner for Karen which he claimed and was sitting in even before I had signed for its delivery - though I'm glad he got to pass his final nights in relative comfort in his favourite spot.

I'll be getting his ashes sent back - they do them in a lovely little wooden casket thing with a brass plaque with his name on it - which will go beside the caskets of my previous four, Spooky, Debbie, Ritchie and Millie. They'll all be together again.

Thanks for the thought, but as I say it's just not me.

It is, and I appreciate it, but just not something I'll be doing. I don't need a shrine or memorial to remember my little gent.

TH, I believe that all cats go to Cat Heaven. Eddie, Ritchie and Millie are probably living it up right now - while also missing you and Karen. You and Karen should be very proud of the great care and love you provided to Eddie.

Cats are too cool not to go to Heaven, though you have to be this cool to enter, I believe. The Gala Cat Ball is about to begin, as Eddie is announced down the sweeping staircase with his sister on his arm...

 Which has me thinking...and I meant to ask you...is Eddie a tuxedo cat, by chance? In which case, very appropriate attire for the Gala Cat Ball.

Handsome and lovely they all are, TH. Thanks for sharing these pics. Eddie, Ritchie, and Millie are undoubtedly the beaux and belle of the Cat Heaven Ball. Thinking of you and Karen today, and every day. <3

Today is wind and rain day.
I slept good at night only woke up once because of the rain.
Finally listening to music and enjoying it.
I progressed a bit with the new drawing.

There is a power cut in my area.
I made popcorn.

I take all the hand warmers and start putting them in my hat, a bumble bee beanie pulled off the shelf, I'm going crazy pacing in circles in a dark store, people like zombies are marching through the snow trying to break their way in

"just a pack of Swishers...just a pack of Swisher Sweets" they say

but that was the beginning of my nightmare, my boss arrives and I get to go home and there's no electricity, it's like 9 degrees in my apartment...I can ****ing see my breath

apparently it was no accident the electricity went out, the city council saw that everyone was going to crank their heaters and there was no way they could support that much electricity

so they started rotating power, but then halfway through went "nah" and just started cutting off anyone in lower income areas

TWO DAYS NO POWER IN BELOW FREEZING CLIMATE

it's obviously back on now, but that was def one of the most miserable experiences of my life, I almost felt like I would have been better off homeless because at least I could have started a ****ing fire

goddamn **** snow

Glad you’re alive and through the worst of it

Also don’t blame the snow, blame the people in power in your backwards ass state. Obviously it ain’t your fault that dip****s in Texas can’t figure out how to handle cold temperatures like all 49 of the other states have figured it out (well I guess prolly not Hawaii lol), but still. There’s over a foot of snow on the ground in my city but I’m still in a warm home with power.

Anteater 02-17-2021 02:06 PM

Lol. The federal government needs to upgrade energy infrastructures and all the major power grids in the country: they're all falling apart. Texas would be a good place to start though, seeing as it serves as something of an epicenter.
