i was on the highway and thought i had money on my card, so i stop for gas because im on empty. i put my card in and is declines it. so i then i panic and start to talk to myself because i knew there was money on it. so i decide not to finish going where i am because now i need enough gas to just get back home.

i was driving down the highway freaking out thinking im going to spend the whole day broke down on the side of the road :/

i drive home and i stop at a gas station on the way home and check their atm, and i have cash. so i just filled up and went home

im not sure why the first gas station declined my card but i should have just tried again

i've had a tough time every time ive been to the States with that. i assumed it was because I'm with Scotiabank.

Nah, you're not alone. Additionally, most gas pumps ask for a zip code and balk at something only six characters long. There's a workaround, but I can't remember it now.

it would be illegal... but yes. seems a bit silly to pay for your gas first, what if you just want to fill the tank?

The pump doesn't charge your card until you're done pumping. You swipe your card, put in your pin, then you pump the gas. When you finish pumping and hang the nozzle up, you are charged for how much you pumped. Seems like a fairly logical way to do it.
