Quickfire Challenge: You're hungry and.......
Name a place that you don't have access to without buying a plane ticket that you'd LOVE to chow down at right now.
Mr Bartley's | Gourmet Burgers | Salads | Dinners | Since 1960 |
I want to go to Vietnam and suck pho straight from the cow.
|
If my grandmother came back to life I'd ask her to fix me her biscuits and gravy breakfast.
|
The steak tips and baked haddock from this place. God, I miss it every day. Plus it's a killer place to hang out at and get drunk.
Fireside Restaurant - Catering, Music and Entertainment! And peeps, I asked for links to specific places that actually exist in 2017. |
Being overly nostalgic is a sign of severe depression.

Point me in the direction of the country with the freshest mass graves and hand me a shovel and a hot plate.

MOD EDIT: Occulthawk tried to be funny here with a tasteless joke about the Manchester massacre but I didn't think it was funny so I'm leaving this here instead. For the record, jokes about little girls getting blown up are pretty f*cking immature. Here's an ostrich instead.

This too. Only fair.

Anthony and Son Panini
https://s3-media1.fl.yelpcdn.com/bph...u35Jw/348s.jpg https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...1b1c399c42.jpg AND Sweet Science | Brooklyn, NY http://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51...NjAxMw%3D%3D.2 Anthony and Son has the best sandwiches that have ever existed in all the world and Sweet Science is my favorite bar. Old school hip hop themed place with fantastic food. Huevos Rancheros breakfast every damn weekend. Good GOD I MISS BROOKLYN. 60 more days baby. Now, since I'm very familiar with those two, here are two places I don't live and have only eaten at once that need to be represented... Home | Parkway Bakery and Tavern | Poor Boy https://images.guestinnovations.com/...EWdSpizgA34%3D The original po-boy. This is still my favorite thing I've eaten on this years trip and it will probably stay that way. It was a top five meal. Not pictured is the fried pickles that were the best fried pickles I have ever had ever and I love fried pickles. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura..._Portugal.html https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/me...cken-karai.jpg https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/me.../photo0jpg.jpg Yak and Yeti in Lisbon, Portugal. I was here for four days. I ate here for lunch for four days. THAT is how good of a hole in the wall Nepalese restaurant this is. I can literally taste the Peshwari Naan now. Probably the best thing I ever tasted. It was so simple and flavorful. I like simple stuff. It's my favorite place in Europe and something that very few people will get to understand because of how much of a hole in the wall it is. OH GOD I WANT SOME NOW. |
Cinzetti's
All you can eat buffet of Italian food. It's in Kansas. :( |

Mariscos Hector!
https://www.yelp.com/biz/mariscos-hector-santa-ana-5 Mostly for the atmosphere. I'm sure the food is pretty great as well but man those waitresses. |
Star of Siam
One of my favorite restaurants ever. I used to eat here several times a week when I worked in downtown Chicago. I went back once, many years after I had moved away, and one of the waiters still recognized me. |
I want to see what those jokes were. I expect belters from Occult and Charles.
Exo's second pic looks amazing. On topic: Not sure, probably somewhere in France. |
Spend some time walking in cold hills and you'll build up a voracious appetite, and appetite is crucial in determining how much you enjoy your food. That's why my favourite food moments are connected to this bakery in The Lake District and others like it. Their pies, pasties and sausage rolls are neither healthy nor fancy, but boy have I enjoyed them, especially when taking them out of my backpack on a windswept peak.
Spoiler for big but beautiful photo:
It's one of a chain of shops in the UK that even turns up in a song by David Thomas Broughton:- Can't get a job, can't tie down a living Can't get by on the pittance they're giving Can't afford a pasty from the Gregg's Bakery But that's not the weight I carry with me... ^ This, btw, is a short version of a song that stretches out to a hypnotic 9 mins on his album, DBT vs. 7 Hertz |
Lisna I will be honest mate Greggs was the last thing I expected to see in this thread :D
|
^ HaHa! Well, I'm very happy to surprise you. I'm sure you've bought a pie or two from Greggs in your time as well! Did you notice the reference to Leeds in the DBT song, by the way ?
|
Yes mate, I've been there but it must be at least ten years now. Used to get baguettes with pizza toppings on them and sausage rolls as they were the cheapest things in there. When you are starving it is warm and comforting. Also cheese & onion pasties used to get those as well.
|
Yeah, everything is good and greasy, so it's best not to make it part of your regular diet.
|
I always get my sandwiches from Greggs on a morning. Usually buy steak bakes as well. Nice one though lisna, wasn't expecting that.
|
^ Thanks, Violet ! I didn't realise Greggs had so many admirers and customers on MB, but let's face it - if you're British, then you've bought something at Greggs !
