After struggling for three weeks with Ritchie's blindness we've come to the heartbreaking decision - really the only option available to us - that the time has come for him. It's going to be a horrible, terrible time for us. Ritchie is the first of our three remaining cats, all from the same litter, but his blindness, brought on by a bleed first in one eye and then spreading to the other, due to high blood pressure, itself a result of his having a hyperactive thyroid gland, leaves us with no choice. All day long he howls, all night he howls. He bumps into things, can't find his food, and can't go outside anymore. His brother and sister, being cats, are less than sympathetic, and his life is just a misery. So we've decided to let him go out on his own terms, while he still has something of his faculties remaining.
Please, please, if you're planning to write something about animals not being the same as humans or some insensitive crap, I'd rather you didn't post at all. I don't want to be dealing with that kind of attitude right now. I'm pretty damn fragile at the moment, so your consideration would be greatly appreciated. This will be Hell on Earth, in a year in which I've already lost my aunt, who meant the world to me. Only halfway through 2017 and already it's in top spot for Crap Year of the Century. :(
