Sherlock Holmes, Mr. Bush from C. S. Forester's Hornblower series, Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings, and Quentin Compson from Faulkner's Sound and the Fury. Holmes is the greatest fictional character of all time, in my humble opinion. Despite his near-superhuman abilities, he feels like a real person. He's so iconic that it's easy to forget that he isn't. Mr. Bush is just plain likable, and I remember thinking Aragorn was the coolest guy on Middle-earth when I read LotR for the first time. And I can identify with the tortured scholar who is Quentin Compson better than any other fictional character I've encountered.
