It is , it`s named after Cheddar Gorge in Somerset where it was created.

Anything else is a poor copy.

Oh, this impressive knowledge! :)

So you like to eat it on Pizza and Pasta? Do ya know Parmesan (named after the italian city Parma. But only the original cheese from Parma is allowed to bear this name, it's patended)? That's what we like to put on our Pizza over here.

I do have impressive knowledge of cheese , In one of my old jobs I was a buyer for a supermarket & one of my jobs was putting together the stores cheese section. So I have vast knowledge of over 400 different cheeses ;)

I always thought it was Parma ham that could only be made in parma , I had no idea it applied to Parmesan too.Mind you most of it is made in Reggina so they call it Parmesan Reggina so it`s probably not breaking any rules.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-13-2005 04:35 PM

Real Feta is made from sheeps milk rather than goats milk

Yeah, it's the same with ham.
I think you're right with "Parmesan Reggina". And the original cheese from Parma is f***ing expensive, I rather buy the faked one.
Or I eat the self-made cheese from my italian relatives. It's awesome.
Hmmm, I just tried to imagine the cheese-selling Mr Hatemonger.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-13-2005 04:48 PM

Oh I didn`t sell it

I left that to the lackeys ;)

right-track 08-13-2005 04:51 PM

Hehe,
Surely this thread should be renamed and called 'Ask Urban Cheesemonger.'
