The Lisbon Earthquake-Tsunami-Fire of 1755 was a doozy.

Great Fire of London (1666) has that beat. Plus it has the Satanic factor. :)

Just the year 1666? The Lisbon Earthquake really did affect Christianity. And killed way more people. Hit on a religious day. Many trapped in collapsed and burning churches. Changed philosophical outlooks.
