Default Cool Things You Probably Didn't Know About

Let's use this thread to share cool software, websites, tricks, hacks, etc. that people may not be aware of.

ENGINEERING TOOL BOX [via Plankton] - Tools and basic information for design, engineering and construction of technical applications.

THE WORLD PASSPORT - If your government refuses to issue you a passport, you can get one online. The World Government Of World Citizens issues passports that have been accepted by 187 countries worldwide.
================================================== ================

COOL TIP: Say you are doing a Google search for cats and only want to find a certain type of results [PDF's for instance], simply type filetype:PDF along with your search term.

================================================== ================

HOW TO DOWNLOAD TORRENTS WITHOUT ANY SOFTWARE:

You can download torrents without using any software by using a free online torrent client. The best one is called Seedr. It supports files up to 2 GB. Other free options include Zbigz and BitPort, but they only support files up to 1 GB. Seedr & BitPort require you to register, but it is free. Another free online torrent client, FileStream, requires registration and supports files up to 200 MB.

Where do you get torrents? There are plenty of sites. If you like movies, the site I prefer is YIFY Torrents. The Pirate Bay is also very popular.

Download your torrent or copy its magnet link [the online address of the torrent] and upload/paste it into the online torrent client.

The client will piece the files together and give you a download link. That's all there is to it!
================================================== ================

HOW TO VIEW OLD VERSION OF WEB PAGES:

Web links often change. Do you need to view a past version of a web page? Is a page down and you want to see what it last looked like? There are several web archivers that will allow you to do so.

The WayBack Machine - Powered by the Internet Archive, this site allows you to search for and view old versions of web pages. Search URL’s and narrow the results by specific date. Over 300 BILLION web pages have been archived here.

Archive.is - This site allows you to save current versions of web pages, as well as search for and view old versions of web pages. Search using URL’s.

WebCite - This site allows you to search for and view old version of web pages. Search using URL’s, a specific date and/or a Snapshot ID.

The Coral Content Distribution Network - This site allows you to search for and view old versions of web pages. Search using URL’s.

Time Travel - Powered by MementoWeb, this sites allows you to search for and view old versions of web pages. Search using URL’s and specific dates.

What Did It Look Like? - Powered by MementoWeb, this sites allows you to search for and view old versions of web pages. Search using URL’s.

Search Engine Caches - All major search engines [Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.] allow you to view cached [saved] versions of web pages. Use their search engine to find the page you want. When the page shows up in the search results, there is an option to view the cached version.

Yeah, I don't think I'd be willing to trust my passport to anyone other than the recognised authority in my country. Nobody wants to hear those words "Theese passport, she ees eeleegal, senor" and then the click of rifles....

Their website shows 11 instances of photographic proof where South Africa accepted such passport [I know, everyone is going to cry "photoshop," but just saying]. There are numerous instances when a nation won't issue you a passport. If you owe past-due child support, you can't get a passport in the U.S. Same deal if you have defaulted on a student loan. Also if you owe back taxes.

I think World Passports were originally created for stateless refugees who otherwise wouldn't have been able to get one.

Not sure if anyone here would have a need for this, but I've used it for some drawing tools and to look a few things up.

Which one beats out the other?

Really that’s crazy. Especially the student loans. Not paying back student loans used to be a rite of passage.
