I feel that way about everything that I've written (as in literature). For my music, that's still there but to a lesser extent but I tend to be more accepting of the flaws. I think that might be because of the improvisational element? Idk for sure.

250+ artworks, countless new audio pieces for myself and others,
the radio show, eBay selling, research, archiving, etc. I'll check soon.

dunno, didn't really think about it. i think as long as people are reasonable it's fine to nominate two or three per category. not much of a point in doing so however if the person was already nominated by someone else.

Just how I feel about my writing. It's nice to get compliments and praise, but I'd never go around saying "Guys you have to read this it's the best thing ever written" and so forth. I think you need a special kind of arrogance to be able to do that. Ahem.

Is it arrogance if it lives up to that claim though?

Fair point, but I guess the real question is does it stand the test of being popular outside of your own circle of friends and family? If strangers - and I mean strangers, not people you know casually or fanboy it to - can appreciate it, then yeah, you're probably justified. Otherwise it's just really self-praise and the praise of people who know you, which is really no measurement of its quality.

I never barred strangers from enjoying my records, that's ridiculous.

Obviously you're quite aware that that isn't what I'm saying, and as usual you're avoiding the question. Can you, for instance, go out on the street and sell your CDs or upload them to Bandcamp and have people buy them? That's the real test.

Not really. People haven’t paid for recorded music in a long time.

I do think he should tour, though.

Pretty sure that even pop artists are gonna struggle selling an album on the street in the modern day but since you're interested here are JTC's lifetime sales

I marketed my music to some of these people, not sure if that breaks the rules for "the real test" or not.

OccultHawk 12-11-2017 03:05 PM

Man, I’ve seen so much great music with under a 1000 listens on Spotify. Has no relation to the value of the music.

I get **** for being a “fan boy” or mod kiss up or something but that bull****. It’s straight up about your music. It’s ****ing good. I’m calling it like it is.

I like a lot of his stuff but it's often kinda unfocused.
Some individual tracks are great but at album length I tend to get bored at some point.

Frownland 12-11-2017 03:15 PM

You might think that it's unfocused, but I'm just surprised that we're still doing these awards.

Trollheart 12-11-2017 03:18 PM

I'm not, believe it or not, trying to put your music down. I don't like it, but that's me. But, if you were to GIVE your music away to people on the streets, say, and ask them to give you feedback when they had listened, I wonder what the overall reaction would be (other than, get me away from this crazy guy, I bet he has a gun, I had better take his damn album!) ....

OccultHawk 12-11-2017 03:24 PM

Nobody wants free music on the streets anymore.

1: It really depends on the album.
2: The average person on the street is not a good target audience for the genres I play, so it's really not a good indicator at all. I honestly think that someone like OH is a good indicator because he already has an esoteric knowledge of American primitivism, free improvisation, and overall experimental music and still appreciates the music in those contexts. Now of course, despite what he says his opinion is biased to a degree, but it's still telling that someone like him appreciates the music.

Edited my picks. I wanted to choose "Paedantic Bastard listens to the past" as my favorite new journal instead of TH's, but it turns out that one is also totally not a journal at all. What?!

Eh, whatever. Then it's going to be "Exo's Top 50 Albums of 2017 Extravaganza" because there's some promising music in there already, after only 3 pages of journal. Although I also wanted to choose Anteater's journal. I don't know... does it matter?

You're abusing your position of power when dealing with these weak jokes. They may go along with it, but in reality they're as ashamed as you should be.
