Skim isn't a processing technique either, it's a type of milk. Just like light beer is a type of beer. Nobody calls in "lightened beer".

So when they run it through a centrifugal separator to remove the fat that's not a process?

Idk how light beer is made. I assume different products are used to reduce calories vs using additional machinery during refining.

Sure it's a process, but the name of the process isn't "skim". Skim milk is the product of the process you're talking about, but it's not the process itself. Similarly, light beer is a product of a process that makes it light beer, but the name of the process isn't "light". Nor is the process that makes Diet Coke called "diet". Nor is the process that makes seltzer water called "seltzer".

Pretty sure the process i described is actually called skimming (it's just being done on an industrial level vs using traditional home techniques). If not I see your point. Also, seltzer is also known as carbonated water which is the process it under goes
